Chrono Trigger for the DS

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ctds/

Official countdown site. Notice the "CTDS" in the URL. A bad (terrible) scan which shows a small corner of a screenshot surfaced on 2ch, and then shortly afterwards, this Square-Enix site shows up. People on gaming forum Neo GAF say that on a S-E page it shows the date 7-7-2008, so expect details on the game then. Could be an enhanced port or a remake.

Also, the countdown isn't the clock in that link. That clock shows your computers time.

It even has the same tick effect from the Chrono Trigger intro.

First Blizzard announces Diablo 3 and now Square-Enix will announce a port (enhanced remake?) for the DS. I don't think my body can handle so many fangasms.

I think I may actually have to get a DS now.

Chrono Trigger is only my favorite game EVER.

It's about time!

Chrono Trigger is my favourite game ever, barring Tactics Ogre. But most importantly, it's the only RPG I don't have a copy of, since I don't trust SNES carts with the save batteries might be dead now, while I hated the PSX load times. I really look forward to this being released here.

CHRONO TRIGGER PORT?

There was no port for playstation.
This news is about 2/3rds as good as the news of a tale of melodies.

Handheld is even better, Final Fantasy ports for GBA did not disappoint. Now all I have to do is get a DS.

If it's as much of an updated remake as Final Fantasy 3 for DS or Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls, it would be amazing, but even if it's still 1995 SNES graphics, I will be content.

Not to mention that Chrono Trigger carts are quite expensive.

Technically, yea; however some wouldn't consider that piece of ass a "port" because it was terrible being hampered by its own load times and all (which were pretty much non-existent on the SNES version).

You know whats sad about this?

None of the Chrono games have ever made it into Europe. Yet I still consider CT as easily one of the great RPG's. Amazing how far the influence reaches yet how much we get ignored.

Let's all hope this is a sign that Square hasn't forgotten the series and that sales from this game lead to a sequel. This is the only game I would even consider getting a PS3 for (though I'd rather not.)

Now to buy the game for the third time...

Go Nintendo and gamefront.de added another (again not very good) scan. Still the original 2-D sprites.

Square-Enix has also put up the North American official site.

Kotaku also has the official press release. Confirmed for the U.S. They're also adding touch screen functionality, a bonus dungeon and a wireless play mode.

Definitely picking this up when it comes out. For the record, I own the PS version, it was bad, game was mint but the load times were brutal. I wonder how feasable a Chrono Cross port to the DS would be? Hmm....

One of the greatest games ever, so its no surprise that they would even consider porting it to the DS. Now I have to go search for my DS which is around here somwhere and wait.

hm... i wonder if the bonus dungeon was the unfinished dungeon people found in the SNES chrono trigger. Actually, now that I think about it, it was finished. It had a soundtrack and the dungeon was mapped out. It was just removed from the final release =\

There was no Final Fantasy IV port either.

Apparently, Square messed up all of its playstation ports, but they had to put my two favourites together to get my hopes up.

Fix'd

Yeah, much of Japan caters to the R1 American market, so Europe gets the shaft a lot. I kind of feel for you.

I heard the Final Fantasy III port for DS was great, and all of the ports for SP were excellent (though they had some very minor flaws), so I expect this one to be just as good (or better ).

I'm honestly surprised at how people are complaining that it will be probably sold at full price of a DS game (~40 bucks), when the SNES cart alone sells easily for over $70. As for near mint condition of the cart/game/box... good luck even trying to FIND the damn thing, as God knows, I really tried at one point in my life.

So why are people complaining again? Are we really such cheap asses that we can't afford an extra 10 bucks for a game that has never been properly ported for almost a decade and a half already? Makes me want to buy two copies, one for playing and one keeping it sealed, and gloat in a year or three to these people that I STILL have a factory sealed copy because they were too cheap to buy it when it first came out at 40 bucks. In fact, I think I'll do just that... man, I'm so pissed when something is practically handed to a person on a silver platter, and they still complain. (and probably just for the sake of having something to complain about)

From what I heard various stores at Akihabara still have the original Japanese release of the SNES Cart in it's original packing going for quite a bargain. Apparently the Japanese still have a mentality that video games are electronic toys.

Damn, if I can only understand moonrunes... won't be the first time, nor would it be the last. Alas, I have no talent for learning new languages...
