Separate beds?? What is that crap?
Also, this is a bit of speculation from an Anime Only viewer. At the beginning of the episode, Asuna told Kirito that she would find him again in the real world. I don't think one of them is going back. |

Doesn't matter if it is in game or real life you always get ijits who like to hide behind the bigger kid whilst putting the boot in. Kinda like the lawyers who threaten people with letters of give them xxx monies or they will take you to court for downloading porn. But from Kirito's warning to Asuna about taking their gear since it is Front territory, I guess their overall rep is bad.

Just so you know, SilverSyko, you're not alone.
There's times when I think that SAO's whole premise is the writer's way of telling a straight-up Fantasy-story with a classic Fantasy setting while still technically keeping the story in Japan. Generally, this doesn't bother me as long as what is presented on screen could conceivably fit in a VR MMO as well. But I think that this episode really stretches things there. For me, it's not so much that this army is extorting people for money (the fact they call it "taxes" though is telling to me - It really does make me think of a classic Fantasy story of a Robin Hood-esque hero protecting average townsfolk from harsh medieval tax collectors, and I think that's intentional on the writer's part). No, for me it's... what the hell are all these three pre-teen kids (that's what they looked like to me) doing in a VR MMO anyway?! Three pre-teen kids and their Sensei. And they're clearly not just NPCs, or there'd be no point in the army trying to extort them. Yui I'm cool with. Yui presents an intriguing mystery while adding a nice family dynamic to Asuna and Kirito (I don't think that it's any coincidence that Yui's character design is one that lends itself to being the biological daughter of both Asuna and Kirito - you see this most clearly with her hair length and color). But we're to believe that some pre-teen kids somehow picked up a heavily anticipated VR MMO on launch day, started playing it, and have managed to survive for two years in it? Man, that's a lot to swallow. Those complaints being made, I really liked the romance bits. I liked the softer, slower-paced feel to it. My biggest general complaint when it comes to SAO is how rushed it often seems to me, so letting things breath a bit was nice to see for a change. And while the first town situation raised some eyebrows for me, I did love how Asuna resolved it. That was genuinely cool.

Considering a few things from this ep, and the prior: A) The 'army' apparently isn't really named the Army, likely a player nickname? They call themselves the 'Liberation Front' or simply 'Front'. It certainly can't be two separate groups with exactly the same armor. It's a 'town' of 2,000 people, 30% of the total population. We don't know how much a 'room' in the starter town costs, but you probably can't afford a permanent roof over your head without doing something for money. Maybe the tax is used to pay for rooms for all those people to sleep in? We really don't know. We're assuming they are low-life scum because they're trying to get kids (one of whom is a little girl) to strip out of their clothes in the name of taxes, but who really knows their deal. It's probably fairly foul, but might have started with the best of intentions. Heck, there are real world armies in 3rd world countries that do worse. Quote:
I know enough parents who have kids that play MMO's with them (in a highly controlled way), but having your under-aged children join that new awesome-sauce VR MMO on day one with you? doesn't sound too shocking. waaah~ long post is long... Last edited by Adigard; 2012-09-16 at 07:48. |

This honeymoon episode was ok, and I liked the addition of Yui. I was just kind of hoping for a wedding episode though. Had even put clothes on just for the occasion. And even though I had kept them on throughout, I could imagine that around two thousand people somewhere had taken their clothes off just for Yui. All for the wrong reasons too. And I say to those people, throwing your clothes at the screen will not give Yui +armor.

As for surviving, it's easy - they just never left the town. Quote:

Just to clarify, most MMO's have some kind of upkeep to support prolonged adventuring. In most games, it's gear maintenance. Consumables are a close second after that. Considering the fact that the army does not seem to have any players who truly understand the game, gear maintenance and consumable costs should be running high.
