Dvd Flick Kurenai MKV

Hi. I just converted Kurenai to dvd format using DVD flick but it looks like it wasn't hardsubed. I don't know if this has anything to do with it being MKV format.

Could anyone tell me what I did wrong and what I need to do to get subs for it?

I DLed [BSS]_kurenai_-_01v2_[704x400_h264][BCBC65A3], after I converted it to watch on DVD I was able to view the intro theme song subs. The ep played fine, only no subs.

(I never had any problems with AVI but I'm assuming there was a subtitle file somewhere I was suppose to dl but I didn't see anything listed in the torrent.)

I don't think DVD-flick is actually capable of detecting softsubs. At least, it's failed to do so in my experience.

Found a link to this guide in tech support, although it's not as simple as DVD Flick.

Do you know if that file is hard subbed or softsubbed? If its softsubbed where do I get the subs? I still have the files on my pc.

How about reading what the previous poster replied. All the answers are there.

I read the first page of the link and read the first page of the v2 guide.

I'm still unclear if the mkv is a hardsub or a softsub. Sorry for not understanding!

If there is a sub file I can insert it into DVD flick.

On their features page this is listed,

Supported subtitle formats
MicroDVD SubRip (SRT)
Substation Alpha (SSA\ASS) * SubView

* Only text is read, no markup or colors

Assuming you're using the Kurenai subs I think you are, I believe they contain an Advanced Substation Alpha (.ass) subtitle track, so if you extract that you should be able to use it.

Note, however, that you'll end up with a single colour, unstyled track. Some subbers use styles and colours to differentiate speakers/background noise/etc., I can't remember if Kurenai's subs did this or not.

I think the guide I posted earlier hard codes the subs into the video stream, so it keeps all the styling at such at the cost of the fact you won't be able to turn subs off.

Thank you for the heads up. I'll try to extract the .ass and post my results. I just dled vcl and was able to see the subs so I can compare the results.

I extracted the ASS file but dvd flick wouldn't take it. I'm going to try following the instructions in http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=26308.

I found a pretty easy way to get my MKV files to the open source dvd flick.

There is a program called Any Video Converter that will convert MKV to MPEG-II.
You can then put the MPEG-II into DVD Flick which will allow you to watch your video file on a regular dvd player with or without menus. If you do use DVD flick there is an advanced option in the video section that allows you to stream the MPEG-II which makes conversion process much quicker.

I downloaded both of these programs for free.

Hope this helps!
