How to convert DVD to mpeg 2?

I got 2 mini-dvds from a DV camcorder which use dvd as storage, and the discs can play standalone on dvd players.

How can I make them into the computer to do some after effects and editings?

If they are standard compliant DVDs, well... there's a few bazillion resources on the web for how to rip dvds to your computer. Which is exactly what you want to do, essentially.

Probably Auto Gordian Knot, if you don't know anything about digital video, and don't want to.

Just load the vob file into DVD2avi or DGMPGDec.
Demux the stream and load the mpeg2 streams (video and audio)
to your editing program.
However some (sony) mini-DVD camcorder do have firewire output (or even usb)
for editing, so maybe check the ports on you corder.
