Well, the gist of it is that Kyon told Haruhi about his dream where he was a girl, so Haruhi made it reality because she wanted to see the female Kyon. While everybody is whispering about what to do about it, Tsuruya comes in and mentions how friendly Haruhi is to Kyonko, and Haruhi says it's because Kyonko is her bride. Tsuruya mentions that Haruhi can't take Kyonko as a bride, so Haruhi says "Oh no, if only Kyon were a guy!" As a result, Kyon gets back to normal. At the end, Kyon gets his revenge on Koizumi by getting Haruhi interested in seeing what Koizumi would look like as a girl.

Somehow though, I half-expected that the punch line after Haruhi realizes that she can't take Kyon as a bride if they're both girls would be for Haruhi to wish for herself to be a guy. :P

Nah. ^^ For the person with the power to affect genderbenders, a good 80% of the time, it's only funny if other people are transformed. "What did you say? Transform myself?! Icky! Are you a pervert or something?"

Well, the joke in this case would have been that the "I can't marry Kyon if we're the same sex" situation would be the perfect opportunity to convince Haruhi to make Kyon male again, but instead Kyon's hopes get dashed by Haruhi making a 90 degree turn PLUS from Kyon's perspective things will get "worse" because next he (she) will be dealing with a male Haruhi.
