First chapter of Obata's new work "Ral Grad", which is based on the upcoming XBox 360's RPG Blue Dragon, is now out in Shonen Jump.

And it cause quite a rukus on 2ch.

It's not hard to understand why :-

First time I seeing Obata going on a full rampage fan service.....

This is a side of Obata i didn't see coming, though its something i'm looking very much forward to seeing more of.

Considering that he hardly got to draw women at all in Death Note (or Hikaru no Go, for that matter), it's probably a pent-up urge that he had no choice but to fulfill.

Either that, or the writer for this new series of his is some kind of dirty old man.

Either way, Obata + meganekko = good, good times.

The writer appears to be someone by the name of Takano Tsuneo (鷹野常雄). I searched around for possible information on this person, and all I found was that he is the writer behide this new manga. Apparently, the Japanese fan community is also trying to figure out who he is. On one of the poll sites I came across, people were voting on who this person may be, and most people seems to think it is Obata himself under an alias. Ooba Tsugumi is the second most popular choice.

Heh, and I thought the Matsumoto councelling session with Orihime in Bleach was pretty risque for SJ...

Now I'm curious where Blue Dragon will turn up in the SJ's weekly rankings with an opening chapter like that.

Yea I like the artwork, but its a little weird. I've been following Blue Dragon the game ever since it was announced and was use to the Akira Toriyama art style, so its kind of weird seeing it like this. However, I'm not bashing it, it looks great. Can't wait to read it, really seems to have um, good character development :P

I just wish he could team up with Hotta again, if not a HnG2 then something else, they kicked ass together.

Btw, does anyone know what Hotta is up to? It's been a while since Yuuto was cancelled and I haven't heard her name mentioned much.

If they ever team up again, I hope they'll work out a better ending spot for their next project than they did with HnG. I think that's one of them most aggravating endings I have read till now.

The lady on the last image looks like a clone of Hild from AMG. Yet another sexy demon queen? Well, I don't mind.

It's a pity that most people care about this manga because of the nudity, not because it's interesting or well-drawn, but something tells me that Takeshi Obata was rather hoping that for this exact audience. Or maybe not.

I am still hoping that substance would prevail over style eventually. The shadow dragon looks promising.

Spoiler for chp1 brief, brief synopsis: Mysterious hero who's locked up for 15 years because he's got some crazy special powers that went out of control when he was born, but they have to release him now since the kingdom is under attack by monsters called "Kage." The earlier parts of the chapter give info on the Kage and whatnot. The later half involves some comedy and just generally Ral (our hero's name, if I'm not mistaken) kicking monster-ass with his shadow-dragon thing that's apparently attached to his body or something. So yeah, nothing too out of the ordinary at the moment.
