I don't really know. I don't think MangaGamer's mentioned the possibility. :/

I'll hold out for a little while more. Best safe than sorry.

So as far as I can see from the last comments in this thread, I've wasted money on the original Japanese copies because there won't be any fan-made patches?

But... why? Didn't Ryukishi say that he's taking our side in this war with mangagamer?

Update everyone! We'll be getting Matsuribayashi-hen sooner than expected! It comes out July 15th instead of the 29th!

What the heck?
There is no "war" with MangaGamer...

I think the Sonozaki Futagotachi might still be translating Higurashi, however it'd take years before they're done, so if you want to read it in English anytime soon, MangaGamer is the way to go.

I'm grateful to MangaGamer for allowing me to finally read these in English.

Yeah... been too quiet, we know ^^;;

We're working out what direction to take the project at this time, it's definitely been on hiatus due to life issues, but we'll post about our plans once things get settled.

In the meantime, there's a MangaGamer release y'all can read.

I think I've got the DS games analyzed enough that doing a translation romhack is possible. Anybody interested in working on it as a translator, drop me a message. (If this does happen, it'll involve the chapters not translated by MangaGamer, unless SF want to edit their translation of Onikakushi / Watanagashi in.)

This is something I would really want to see, the translation of all arc that are not done already.

What I was thinking some time ago was to port the game to ponscripter, but it's even less legal

Other languages have any chance?
Can you make a sample version with SF's Onikakushi / Watanagashi translation or something?

As for other languages, probably, as long as the needed alphabet's not too big.

For example, German would need 7 additional glyphs: Ä, Ö, Ü, ä, ö, ü, and ß, easily doable
Spanish would need 9-16 extra glyphs: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, ñ, ¿, and ¡ (not sure if I need capital versions of those lettes), probably doable

The one language I'd have trouble with is Vietnamese, with its 130 extra glyphs. (Well, I could do it, but I'd have to make everything fullwidth.)

As for working in SF's translation, I'd need their permission. There are also places where the text was changed or where they added branches in the conversion: http://sonozakifutagotachi.blogspot....hts-on-ds.html

You should simply show us if you can hack the rom easily. Simply replace one of the first line of text by "Hello world!" and show us.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?pie4i3j13p37357 (Proof of concept xdelta patch for Higurashi NDS 4)

I'm new with xdelta; you may need to name the original file "orig-rom.nds" and call the patched version "Higurashi.nds".

(Xdelta downloads: http://code.google.com/p/xdelta/downloads/list )

I did my work under Linux, but I think this will work:

1) Install xdelta from the above site.
2) Put mod.xdelta in the directory with the rom.
3) Create a file called do-patch.bat in that directory.
4) Edit do-patch.bat so it contains
Code:
xdelta patch orig-rom.nds mod.xdelta Higurashi.nds
pause
5) Double click do-patch.bat.

Did anybody else try it? Mediafire says there were 4 downloads, but nobody else has responded.

$ sudo apt-get install xdelta
$ xdelta patch mod.xdelta orig-rom.nds new-rom.nds

Replacing orig-rom.nds with the name of the file you use.
And it must by Kizuna 4.

I've got the technical parts of a Higu patch down, but I'm not up to translating.

@spikexp: Did it work or not?
