ep 12 ~

emotional is the word to describe this ep...and its probably the most emotional one to date...
as expected we have a fight between kureha and ayano but this doesnt last long as the behemoth soon wakes up which takes away kureha's given powers...she falls unconcious and the gang goes up against the giant flame turtle (now which wise guy thinks that fire would work against a fire/earth element being? O.o) ~ as shown their attachs have no effect and in turn they are the ones in danger as the turtle knows how to fire beams from its mouth...

a bit later into the fight kazuma suggests that the uses his contractor power but this will take 5 minutes as usual...kureha then wakes up and is in a rage...she faces the turtle and begins to fire spikes from the ground...all of which shatterers against the turtle's hard defense...she is then blasted into pieces by the beam fired from the turtle...(nice )

as the situation seems more grim ayumi decides to start the ritual herself to weaken the turtle as she doesnt want anyone to die anymore and she wants to be with ren...however ren is reluctant and tries to stop her...kazuma then tells him that she is doing this for his sake...she is risking her life to save him so what will he do? fight on or let everyone die? ren chooses to kill the bastard once and for all and kazuma invokes his contract...then boom! the yaro is dead (but i find it a bit funny how kazuma didnt take 5 minutes to ready his contract...unless he was already doing so beforehand O.o)

in the end...ayumi falls down weakened and turns to dust in ren's arms...but before that we have a crying session ;_;
kazuma tells ayano that ayumi is an egg from the pixie...ayano asks why he didnt save ayumi if he knew ~ he tells her that there was no other way to defeat the turtle and apologizes for being weak...but next time he will protect everyone ~ ayano then falls silent...

and while ren is crying his eyes out ayumi tells him to live a happy life...their time was short but fun and ren confesses...her last wish before disappearing was for ren to smile...which he does ~

Well I'd say emotional does a great job of describing this episode. A pretty powerful one with the loss of life really hitting you this time. It's not a ton of fodder getting killed off that no one knows and thus has strong feelings about. Find out the past of Kureha and she bites the dust pretty soundly. But really the death of Ayumi really was something powerful. It wasn't just Ren who was terribly hurt about it, but Ayano and Kazuma both felt it though most likely because they couldn't do anything for Ren.

Though in the loss you got a small AyanoxKazuma moment where they both felt their weakness. Even with the contractor powers Kazuma couldn't do anything his gaining of power to protect everything fell short. Especially Ayano took it feeling her own weakness and wanting to get stronger.

Of course you get the Mayumi figuring out what she did wrong and being sorry. But that felt more separate from things, maybe she and Yuuji had some moment in the novel that they didn't have time to put in here.

Did manage to slip in as seen above a humorous thing where Ayano angry at being abandoned again runs to kick Kazuma. And the very important lesson of not messing with a giant turtle. Those things really can ravage the countryside in a big hurry.

Somehow this episode was slightly disappointing. The battle was pretty anti-climatic, especially the ending triple combo. Ayumi's dialogue felt really cheesy overall, especially the whispering part at the end. The only saving grace was Kazuma having a really long talk with Clare (who turned out to be pathetic overall, especially in her suicide act at the end).

However, next week should be very fun, with the amusement park double (tripple? Ren is two-timing Kanon, with a guy nonetheless ) date.

Yeah the ending was a bit special this week. I really liked it. Also, at the very end - Instead of Kazuma layind down on the hill, it is Ren. So this time Ayano reaches out her hand to Ren in her special caring smile that we (as far as I know) don't ever see outside of the ending sequence.

I really felt nothing but boredom here with all those cheesy lines along the way, but that is probably because I hated this Ren arc the most from the hole novels volumes...sadlly there will be more Rei in center next week as well...Ahh...More boredom....

Maybe someone can tell me why Gonzo keeps producing new ED for KnS when they have no cash to spare. I'm not complaining I guess, it's nice to see Ren taking over Kazuma's favorite spot, maybe by the end of the next arc it'd be Ayano's turn.

This episode is actually better than I expected it to be, although it's lame in many ways. Gonzo really knows how to pick out the best stuff and get rid of them...

Again, this episode cut out quite a few significant scenes, including one of the most touching moment in my opinion, Ayumi's direct confrontation against Mayumi, and Mayumi joining with Ayumi in the ritual to restrain the majuu. Gonzo simply left Mayumi lying unconscious after being released from the crystal pillar, I don't know what to say anymore...

Besides, I just don't get it. What's the point to have Kazuma laughing like a lunatic in ep9-10 if he can't be allowed to do anything destructive no matter what? I can understand they can't allow him to mock Kureha to death and chop her into pieces because the scene might be overly disturbing, thus that turtle had to do it on his behalf, but why they have to strip Ren's opportunity to educate his nii-sama too, nobody dead only some half-dead bodies on the ground and their hearts are still beating..

1) time constraints? i really cant see what other material they could have crammed into this ep so unless they want to span things out over 2 eps then i think it is a good move...there has always got to be some material unused due to various factors and i guess the other stuff was more important to get the core of things...i guess i will read the novel if i want the full story then...

f you complain about KnS cutting or rushing few parts way too much, you can always look at the animation of Zero no Tsukaima as an example. And then the whole skipping in KnS will look so minor compared to ZnT (where they skip not lines or scenes, but whole chapters or even volumes).

True, they can't stuff so much into one episode.
Personally I think the the interaction between Mayumi and Ayumi is a highlight point, that really adds depth to the characters, the battle scene isn't that interesting to me.
I will just do the dialogue (quick and dirty translation) so you can get some idea what it's about.

Which part of my post made you think so? I was in plain whining mode when I posted earlier, I guess my point was not clear to say the least...

1.In the novel, Kazuma killed Kureha using his wind blade, after mocking her into leaving her guard down (Kazuma's theory about Kureha's power could be true but he had no proof whatsoever.), and literally chopped her body into tiny pieces..
2.Earlier, Ren explicitly told Kauzma not to kill people, because he came to save Ayumi, saving Ayumi by killing off others would be meaningless. But when the dungeon started to collapse and Kazuma took Ren and Ayumi out by going straight-up, some Tsuwabukis were left half-dead there due to extreme air pressure. And Ren got to learn that “not to kill” means “their hearts are still beating so it's OK” in Kazuma's dictionary.

Episode 12 was touching, yet really lacking as it's been rushed due to time constraints in the anime... I personally have the same sentiment as Persedei, that GONZO really does know just the BEST scenes to omit... I'm not really an expert or anything, but I believe it could've been handled far far better than this one, considering that they made the pace slow at the start of the arc then rushed like a fool with the last two eps. =____=

I've been dealing with an unexpected surprise in my life (which I hope will not hinder me from blogging) so I'm pretty delayed far more than usual... perhaps I'll just merge my deep frying into my summary + thoughts

I'd like to say "it wasn't so bad in the beginning", but truthfully that is because at that point we did not have as much info about the novels yet. This could have turned out to be a really great anime, but as of now it's just slightly above average :S (but still one of my top favorites from the spring season)
