Technically they are aiming for his fame. If one of them becomes his girlfriend she will become "the girlfriend of the only guy in the world capable of piloting an IS", thus gaining fame and recognition, which is something women love.

From my point of view the best harem would be the one with the man capable of controlling and using the women, for sex or whatever other reason (aka, my personal army of bishoujo).
And that's perfect for a world where the womens are strong because of the IS.

I agree on this. Wouldn't be bad having some harem-anime like that, from time to time.
but, at the same time, I wouldn't want the "normal"-"standard" harem to disappear... maybe both can coexist?

That reminds me of Hyakka Hyouran where the guy just stand back and orders the girls go fight and kiss to power up. I hate the set up. I wish the guy fights and the girls supports her or just be out of the fight if they would just get in his way.

Well then our male lead will be in a very unfortunate position that will probably lead to something bad, that's probably why 99.99% of harem animes don't actually go with the idea.

I like the fact that every girl in the school is both a potential rival and/or love interest. As said above, I bet a lot of them are interested in sharing in his fame if they got close to him. I also imagine that a lot of the girls are just interested in what he can do. He's now in a world that has been entirely dominated by women. He's the outsider and they want to know what he can do. If he is good and one of them defeat him, it would not only garner success for the victor but further prove the superiority of women. He is in the lions' den right now and probably doesn't even fully realize it yet. Poor and/or lucky bastard

You won't be saying that if one of the girls kick his ass royally. His popularity will plummet and he'll probably be looked down upon by the rest of the school. If he wants keep his popularity, let alone survive, he'll need to be either very good or very lucky. Possibly both. The good thing is that if he is good, he'll win over girls out of respect in true harem fashion

as I've already said, if that pre-OP sequence is any foreshadowing of things to come -(and it certainly is)-... then, we can safely say he's quite good. of course, having luck on your side is always a good thing.
