For a battle manga? Yes.

Toriko isn't doing that good in sales and weekly ranking. So you can't blame for me having that kind of thought considering how fast was the pacing in these chapters.

The pacing is probably the author's decision. It's the final arc, you can't let the adrenaline dissipate. Sure, Komatsu's situation was VERY interesting, but delving into the matter would let the 8 king battles stagnate. Arguably, some of them could be dealt with off-panel, but then what's the point of having them in the first place? In order to avoid the fate of BLEACH, the pace can't slow down now, despite the consequences of such a choice.

Ideally, Komatsu will get a flashback mini-arc after the final fight is over, although I suppose the chances for that are pretty low...

Well, to put things on a more positive note..... I must admit, I do find it quite amusing that Toriko's ultimate power-up apparently comes from his love for Komatsu.

Edit: Aaaaand, the chapter's already out. Not much more to add to what I already said in the spoilers, aside from the fact that Don Slime already gained a pretty high place in my "creepy freakshow" list for this series.

Many of those gourmet cell monsters that showed up aren't too far behind, either....

marvelB Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005	Well, just checked the script for the next chapter: Spoiler for 343: The good news: We get a flashback for Komatsu's adventure after all! The bad news: That cooking tournament ended up getting interrupted, after all. Anyways, Komatsu explains that him and his group spent literally decades in the spirit world, where time flows faster than the living world (pretty much like DB's time chamber, I guess). Also, the reason the cooking tournament got interrupted was because of the Whale King, whose hunger causes a bunch of food spirits and gourmet cell monsters to go on a rampage. An angry Don Slime cancels the tournament right there, saying that he acknowledges the human world chefs' skills. He then tells them to complete the cooking of Acacia's full course, in order to revive a certain someone..... the strongest man in the world that he fell in love with, Ichiryuu....!!!! Uh.... so, Don Slime is basically the Komatsu to Ichiryuu's Toriko, then? Anyways, imminent revival of the old man confirmed!!! Edit: Aaaaand, the chapter's already out. Not much more to add to what I already said in the spoilers, aside from the fact that Don Slime already gained a pretty high place in my "creepy freakshow" list for this series. Meanwhile, we shift focus to Blue Grill's "Kitchen of Eternity", where we see Chako (that kid Komatsu met a while back) participating in the country's "project". Speaking of Komatsu, he prepares to head to Shell Mountain, where the project is taking place. The old man from before warns him that he may not return alive, but having died once previously, Komatsu is not afraid. He also has a good idea as to what this great project of Blue Grill is.... the revival and cooking of Acacia's full course! At the kitchen of eternity, it would appear that the people there are in the middle of cooking God (can't be sure here without pics). However, a horde of food spirits approach them. It's at this point that Don Slime takes all the chefs with him, and warps to the kitchen via the "back world". He scares away the spirits, and notes that rather than seeking their revival, they seemed to be running away from something, possibly the Moon Whale King. The chefs want to ask some questions before entering the spirit world, and Jiji obliges, saying that he'll explain what's going on in the country, and their goals..... Komatsu makes it to the entrance of Shell Mountain where the cooking project is taking place, but it seems he encounters a woman there (possibly Chako's mother)....
