heh, it has nothing to do with likeness, i like german too. Its just hilarious to see some japanese ideas since they care more about how cool a word sounds than what it actually means

A yeah the germany trip in Negima was hilarious especially since the mistake was not corrected in the german version (they at least could have done that xDD) and then even aired in TV xDDDD

The Bernkasteler Doctor is one of the most expensive whine regions in germany. But in that Bernkastel city I haven't found a red whine stock, only white ones o_O

Because there was so many talk and confusion about Bernkastel Kues, I thought I'll sum it up a little. Perhaps the stuff about white / red wine was a slip up on Ryuukishis part but to give you an idea: The town Bernkastel Kues is just one of many towns along the Mosel river which is one of the famous areas for wine production in Germany (Link on Wikipedia). A was there with my parents on holidays when I was a child many times. Many winegrowers live in those towns and the mountains alongside the rivers are literally filled with nothing but forests and vineyards (The pictures on Wiki also show this really well).
I guess Auria is right with this clue that Bernkastel Doctor is one of the most famous regions around there so he may have just taken this name because he know this brands.

I also saw another interesting interpretation of the name on the TVTropes Triva Page of the game which I'll just quote:
