I was going to post this yesterday but my Internet connection and I had a disagreement...
I believe that in Episode 15 Victor states something along the lines of....

which backs up the idea that it is an ability gained through 'victorisation'...

That fate/busou flash parody thingy is truly awesome. Not to mention well animated considering how finicky flash creator can be... (or it's just finicky to people like me who swiftly uninstalled it due to sheer frustration)

By the by, just watched the RAW of episode 22... Although I felt like a child reading a pop-up book just for the pretty pictures it certainly makes me more and more anxious to see how they are going to end it all. Though a basic outline of my vague and most likely deluded perception of the episode is as follows...

Our first brief glimpse on the man Victor once was, something which we see a few times throughout the episode, revealing a wife and young daughter. He get's bombarded by what is quite frankly for anyone else considered an overkill of the highest degree..

Next he does his 'superman' bit and encounters the newly formed Victor squad where in a characteristically confident Hiwatari lies in wait amidst the foliage.
However it quickly switches to a 'face-hugging' scene reminiscent of Half-Life. Gozen-sama get's 'acquainted' with Kazuki in an energetic reunion... As for the rest of the episode I can only speculate to what is said and what happens... Other than that Kazuki is to meet his 'predeccessor's' family. As well as what I can only speculate being a White Kakugane, the details of which and I apologize for I'm hazy on.

It's certainly an episode you don't want to miss!

I just watched Ep 22 RAW.

Episode starts out by showing a flashback with Victor (when he was human), and his wife Alexandria and daughter Victoria. Human victor is very reminiscent of Captain Bravo. He states that he exists to fight to make at least one person in the world more happy.

The battle between Victor and the regiment begins with a long-range attack, missile launcher busou renkin, "Genocide Circus". The commander general takes command from the sea with battleships and helis. Hiwatari, et. al. manage to land on the island and prepare to fight. Victor figures it out and heads their way. The scene ends just as Hiwatari et. al. are about to take their turn at Victor.

Kazuki, Tokiko, and Gouta arrive at Newton Apple Girl's Academy. Chouno and Gozen-sama are waiting for them at the gate. At first Tokiko is aggressive towards Chouno, but Kazuki stops here and Gozen-sama says that Papi fought against alchemic warriors to help them. Chouno says to Kazuki "Glad to see you're well" and Kazuki responds likewise.

The mysterious figure is suddenly seen in the courtyard of the academy. The five chase the figure to a dead end alley, where a girl in the academy's uniform is waiting. Chouno reveals that she's a Homunculus to the others. A secret passage opens up and the girl invites them to follow her, as her mother is waiting for them. She already knows Kazuki's name and also refers to him as "Victor III".

The next scene goes back to the land battle between Hiwatari et. al. against Victor. A tri-combo attack fails and Samurai Sword X actually breaks upon striking Victor's skin. Victor then uses gravity control to fight off the other attacks. Hiwatari and the mask girl (forgot her name) combine a volatile gas with Hiwatri's Blaze of Glory, which he reveals increases the damage by 10~20x. The attack appears to be effective against Victor initially, but then Victor's color changes. Back on the ship, they speculate that Victor has just transitioned into yet another "stage" (becoming even more powerful). The commander general orders all naval units to keep a distance of 3kM from Victor, and calls to evacuate the ground troops from the area. Then the general announces that he's going to have to take a different course of action, and walks away from the command post. He asks himself how many sacrifices are going to be made from here.

Back to Tokiko et. al. Tokiko remarks that the underground entrance is different from before. The girl remarks that she periodically changes the location, because it would be a problem if it was discovered. She then reveals that the tunnel itself is her own busou renkin, "Underground Searchlight". They come to a chamber and as the light turns out Gozen-sama freaks out "Ahhh! It's...it's a rack of brains! Scary..."

A voice then speaks. She reveals herself as Victor's wife, and that the girl is her daughter. She is also an alchemic researcher. Chouno deduces that she's researching how to make her husband, Victor, human again. She responds that she's correct, and Tokiko is happy for a brief moment. Then the daughter says "Don't be naive, alchemy can't make everyone happy". Tokiko asks what she means, and she gets scolded by her mom for her rude tone of voice. The girl then leaves, remarking to the group that like her father, she hates alchemic warriors and they make her sick.

Back to the battleground. Victor is powering up in his new phase, and the ground forces now in helicopters note that energy drain has become stronger than ever. The commander general then makes his appearance and takes Victor 1-on-1 with his busou renkin manipulator "Astar Val" (or something to that effect), which is a giant metal suit of armor. Upon forming its arm, it crashes down from above on Victor and knocks him into the sea. Victor then arrises out of the sea, only now he has become absolutely gigantic (as large as the giant suit of armor).

Back once again to Kazuki et. al. Victor's wife reveals that Victor used to be the strongest alchemic warrior, but fell in a battle against the homunculus. The only way to save him was the black kakugane. Then we see Victor (now inhuman) holding the body of his wife, and his wife reveals that she lost her body that day, and when her spirit/whatever came to, her daughter had become a humunculus, although she has no idea what happened. She then reveals that she's been working on a prototype black kakugane, the one that took the place of Kazuki's heart. Then she reveals that based on that prototype data, she's created a white kakugane, which counters the black kakugane's power. The white kakugane can return a "Victor" back into human. Tokiko collapses upon hearing this, overjoyed and nearly crying. Chouno says "wait a minute, what did you use as a base in developing this?" to the mother, who in turn remarks that Chouno is indeed a sharp one.

Back to the battle. Victor and the commander appear evenly matched, and Victor gets knocked into the sea once again, and re-emerges once again, unharmed. The commander remarks that this appears it will be a long fight.

Back to Chouno et. al. The wife remarks that they used the final black kakugane (II) as a base for developing the white kakugane. Because of this and the fact that the secrets to the black kakugane were lost 100 years ago, the wife says its probably impossible to create a second white kakugane. This means that either Kazuki or Victor can become human again, but only one of them. *shock* The wife tells Kazuki to decide how to use the white kakugane. The episode ends with a flashback to the girl saying "Don't be naive, alchemy can't make everyone happy".

Looks to be a very light-hearted episode with Tokiko and Kazuki looking like a couple. Title: "Boy Meets Battle Girl", which made me crack up when I read it.

I have no idea what just possessed me to write that much, I might have well just translated the whole episode. But hopefully someone finds it useful information.

I watched this ep with the anticipation of learning more on Victor ie Newtons's girls Academy . I was a bit dissapointed it wasnt shown in this ep but thats gives me more reasons to watch 22

The highlight of this ep was the submarine it was intresting to see how alchemy can and could be used by objects .

Animation quality of episode 22 went down severly unfortunately.

They cut out all the humorous parts in the manga too, and cut to the chase.
But they did add original battles to make up for it.

I really miss out the cut parts tho... there were some hilarious stuff with Papilon

To Mr. Roots, I am appalled with your writing skills and Japanese-comprehension listening skills meaning that your review is one fine piece of translation work that alowed me to understand the episode after have already watched it.

Just two comments before I start
1. Victoria's voice sounds familiar, doesn' it? That's because I am very certain that the seiyuu who voices her is none other than Rie Kugimiya. The voice fits well to the character because it accentuates those slitted, razor-cold eyes of hers.

2. Pity that Gota was not freaked upon meeting Pappi along with the group. I mean it was his first time seeing Pappi, and I presume he just overlooked Pappi as nothing more than a weirdo on a tutu. Maybe it can also be due that he and Pappi were not formally introduced to each other one to one. Would have been for another comedy gold scene.

3. Victor has quickly become vexing as a broken record everytime that I listen to his, "Alchemic Warriors must disappear from the face of the World", line.

Spoiler for For episode 23:

If Roots translation is the correct, then I finally got to know that the Black Kakugane II is no longer around since Alexandria used it to develop the proto-White Kakugane.

I must assume that the other two Black Kakugane were developed along with the first one by the Alchemic Regiment.

Alexandria could have taken the Black Kakugane II while it was still in the experimental phase for personal investigation.

As for the Black Kakugane III, it is obvious that also became lost and in some way Victoria managed to find it and bring her back to her mother's hideout.

But why would Victoria conceded Tokiko to take BK III scot-free?

Like her father, she explicitly stated that hates alchemy and the Alchemic Warriors. Wouldn't she instead chose to destroy it and save the world from more unhappiness?

Of course, had Victoria destroyed the BK III instead of giving it away for free, then Kazuki would have died out at the very start of episode one meaning no Busou Renkin in the first place.

I recall Victor's first appearance in episode 14, as well as I remember to have posted my hopes for him not to be handled as a one-dimensional character, and I have to give thanks to the staff for this wonderful episode that fills in the full account of his background.

Victor has more than obvious reasons to despise and loathe alchemy as a devil's science which brings nothing more than tragedy and unhapiness for those who exploit it.

I mean Alexandria died physically on his arms and was able to return only as a near-shadow of her former self; her living consciousness stored on that rack of brains, still retaining both her memories and current personality.

But I have to add a further comment that Victor is only seeing the black shade of the whole universe. The explosion was an unfortunate accident that no one saw coming, and I do not think that Alexandria along with the rest of the science staff were forced against their will to keep going on with the surgery.

Alexandria wanted to save Victor at any cost, and since he was the regiment's most strong and talented warrior, his death would have proven a devastating loss to their ranks, though it did after he became inhuman and deserted the force to become the regiment's prime enemy.

Unfortunately, I am likely too optimistic on delivering those statements since we were only given both Victor's and Alexandria's side of the story. There is still Shousei's side of the story pending, as well as the Regiments' higher-ups account of the truth about the whole incident.
