well if sigils are program based, and since magic is almost natural, might as well link two and two... and it does require magic power to set up a sigil- her condition is simply a state of near-neutrality only enough magic to cast some simple bolts and a shield- a sigil to me is not just a program but also a framework in which spells are relayed and such- even though they are artificial, they are still 'inherent' with the mage- and thus a link to organic/genetic can be drawn.

And i thought it was the Iincho part you were talking about...

Define Mary Sue.

Some people think that the slightest idea that has been used ever before makes a character a Mary Sue. I myself only view characters as Mary Sues when they are simply too perfect (Everyone loves her, she can't ever make a mistake, she's unbeatable etc etc).

In the OC-thread, Kha and Hikki come the closest to be called Mary Sues in my book, and even then I'm putting question marks (although Hikki seems to enjoy hopping in the red zone more often then Kha ).

TSAB Profile: Naomi Jaeger is the newest recruit to the OFM, and is very much the baby of the Order; everyone has a soft spot in their hearts for her - not surprising, since she grew up around the Order as a child, growing from being merely Franz's sister and Order mascot into the most recent addition to the Order. She shows great promise and Emili has taken her under her wing as her apprentice and wingman.

Three words: GAR tsundere moe. That's the superficial description of Naomi, one which has caused more than a few heads to explode. (including Smith and Wesson, who suffered minor meltdowns)

History: Naomi is one of the youngest mages in the Order of Freelance Mages, but that doesn't mean that she's lived a sheltered life. Her life has been marked by ups and downs, like any other person's life; when she was 1, her parents were killed during a suicide bomb attack in the waning segments of the War of Subjugation; a young Sergeant in the Gardai named Franz Jaeger found an abandoned baby at the scene of the attack and took her in, raising her as his own child/sister.

When Franz was recruited into the Order, he ended up bringing Naomi with him to the office a lot, as he was having trouble finding daycare/babysitters, and he was also becoming paranoid about her being kidnapped and used as a threat against him, with the result that Naomi has spent much of her childhood at the OFM headquaters, being raised mostly by Franz and with the Order's mages and support staff as a large extended family. As a result, unlike other girls her age, she's more aware of what exactly goes on in the world, which prompted her desire to join the Order.

Despite being the Order's mascot and Franz's sister, she didn't get any slack, however. She still went through standard TSAB recruit training, and Erick followed long-established recruitment policy in determining whether to recruit her or not; she passed all her psychological evaluations and selection (though just barely), and after finishing her basic training in tactics and weapons handling (which was a bit easier than most, since Franz had taught her how to shoot), was assigned to the OFM Air Force's Lance Flight as Lance 2, Emili's wingman.

Since her assignment as Emili's wingman and apprentice, Naomi has shown rapid progression in terms of skills and abilities, and Emili is quietly grooming her and preparing her to become a Flight Leader for when the OFM expands. She's been B-ranked for the past 9 months and is preparing to take the A-rank promotion exam sometime within the next six to eight months; like Teana, she's quite ambitious, though she's not as gung-ho about proving herself as Teana is. Well... not as overt as Teana, anyhow.

Naomi and Emili are very close; she sees Emili as an older sister, a sentiment she reciprocates, and both often hang out and spend time with each other; off-duty, it's not uncommon for Naomi to adress Emili as "nee-chan". Glen is likewise another older brother (though she calls him "Glen" or "Sir", while Erick and Sergeant Major Ivanovich are her surrogate uncles. (On a side note, when Franz saw nine year old Naomi sitting on Ivanovich's shoulders, laughing happily as the senior NCO sang her a nursery rhyme, he nearly had a heart attack.) She's also friends with the Aces, referring to them as "name-neechan", though when they meet publicly, on duty, or in uniform, she adresses them as "Ma'am."

Because Erick was a strong presence in her early years (taking on the role of a friendly uncle), Naomi has subconsciously molded herself on him, taking on his GAR tendancies and merging them with the tsundere personality inbuilt in herself (and reinforced by contact with Emili). She can be a very kind and loving person when she wants to be, though if she's pissed off, it's best to put on body armor and take cover (again, very much like Emili).

She's very loyal to her friends and extended family in the Order, but while she's friendly and outgoing, Naomi does have difficulties connecting with people outside the Order, and has difficulties in seeing the other person's point of view, particularly in her relationship with Franz - oftentimes she wonders just whether he truly does love her, and doesn't have that assurance simply because he's very uncomfortable about telling her he loves her. The result is that she's constantly seeking this assurance, trying to prove herself to him to win his approval, and problems do crop up - such as when she kept asking him if he loved her while he was requesting air support. (Glen was not pleased about that one bit.) One of her biggest sensitive points is her bust size; she gets very touchy about not being as well-developed as - say, Subaru or Teana - and the mentions of busty well-endowned women can set her off on a long rant on the injustices of the world. Franz does not understand this, but tries to give her ranting space.

Part of Naomi's problem is that she loves Franz more than she should... and keeps trying to get him to actually open up to her. She has an intuitive knowledge that he's keeping the true him hidden from her and everyone, and wants to break through his armor and bring him into the light...while he, on the other hand, wants to keep himself hidden. What really annoys her is how blind he is to her

As with all OFM members, Naomi has received extensive training for black ops and covert interventions, and is particularly fond of using flashbangs. Her bond with her teammates is strong and firm, and about the only person in the Order she doesn't really get along with is Sergeant Aleksndr "Psycho" Nagant, demolitions specialist; she's always wary and a tad skittish around him, and finds his childlike delight in blowing things up to be downright creepy at times.

Well, she has the next ten years to get used to him.

If she can stay alive (and sane) long enough, Naomi is destined for great things - but she's all too aware of the fate of her predecessor as Lance 2. Till then, all she can do is her best, to prove herself to her flightmates, her friends, her "family"...

...and to the man she loves, whom she would do anything for..

Naomi's attempt to get a reaction out of Franz failed as he arrived drained and worn out from another Unlimited Paper Works session. Naomi's device is a Mid-Childan staff named Sparrow. Sparrow was based off the design of Emili's Sidewinder, as both were Ice specialists. Naomi has a flair for bombardment spells and prefers to use them when available; many of her spells are identical to Emili's; no surprise, since the latter is her teacher. While she prefers ranged combat, she's also decently skilled in close combat, as both Glen and Franz have noted that it's harder to take down a mage with ranged combat compared to getting up in their face and punching their lights on (or kicking them in the balls). And kicking Franz in the gut is very, very satisfying indeed...

In Spear Form, Sparrow is a spear, of a design close to the Japanese naginata; in this form, Naomi can wield it quickly to intercept attacks, and has found its greater length and reach helps to give her an advantage against sword-wielders. In Staff Form, it resembles something like the Lance of Longinus, with a blue gem between the two prongs.

Barrier Jacket: Naomi's Barrier Jacket consists of a white gi and a blue skirt of similar style to Nanoha's miniskirt & extension, except that it's a one piece garment (aka from miniskirt, back longskirt). She wears black thigh socks ("It's for the zettai ryouiki appeal and to look cool") and white shoes, and has skirt and shoulder armor panels. Unlike Fate, this is her close combat form, balancing power and protection; her ranged combat form drops the skirt and armor, putting the remaining power into dodging speed and bombardment power, relying on evasion instead of tanking.

In a way you're right. It is pretty pointless. This thought just entered my head while I was trying to build Kyouka's profile. I just thrown it out just to get it out of my head so I can concentrate on her.

But... now that I think of it, there might be a purpose to this crazy idea. I mean all we've been doing is creating OCs to basically fight, fight and fight. Why not do something silly and different for a change and place CCs and OCs in a soccer field instead of the battle field? Use the abilities that they have for entertainment instead of battle. See how do they use their abilities differently in different situations. Do you envision your characters to do nothing but combat and romance? Do something different, break out of the mold!

This may be my attempt to expand the world of MLSN beyond combat. Currently only AImost Pure's Minea, Lowe's Matsuri and Keroko's Syn are the only characters that have nothing to do with the combat side of MSLN that I know of. I'm starting to feel that all the epic battles, 'romantic' romance and such in the thread are getting a bit stale. Sure they are epic and full of win but too much of a good thing isn't that good. I'm trying to bring a breath of fresh air in via this silly soccer match crack and my in-creation OC Kamikaze Kyouka, age 8, street rat and upcoming lyrical magic user.

Yup, nothing wrong with some craziness now. One of things we do in the OC is to put characters in situation we'd never expect them to afterall, and the potential for some craziness canon would never afford (which is why he have things like StrikerS Nano afterall). So the fact that there is no point to the Soccer match is the entire point

(On a side note, when Franz saw nine year old Naomi sitting on Ivanovich's shoulders, laughing happily as the senior NCO sang her a nursery rhyme, he nearly had a heart attack.) She's also friends with the Aces, referring to them as "name-neechan", though when they meet publicly, on duty, or in uniform, she adresses them as "Ma'am."

Because Erick was a strong presence in her early years (taking on the role of a friendly uncle), Naomi has subconsciously molded herself on him, taking on his GAR tendancies and merging them with the tsundere personality inbuilt in herself (and reinforced by contact with Emili). She can be a very kind and loving person when she wants to be, though if she's pissed off, it's best to put on body armor and take cover (again, very much like Emili).

She's very loyal to her friends and extended family in the Order, but while she's friendly and outgoing, Naomi does have difficulties connecting with people outside the Order, and has difficulties in seeing the other person's point of view, particularly in her relationship with Franz - oftentimes she wonders just whether he truly does love her, and doesn't have that assurance simply because he's very uncomfortable about telling her he loves her. The result is that she's constantly seeking this assurance, trying to prove herself to him to win his approval, and problems do crop up - such as when she kept asking him if he loved her while he was requesting air support. (Glen was not pleased about that one bit.) One of her biggest sensitive points is her bust size; she gets very touchy about not being as well-developed as - say, Subaru or Teana - and the mentions of busty well-endowned women can set her off on a long rant on the injustices of the world. Franz does not understand this, but tries to give her ranting space.

Part of Naomi's problem is that she loves Franz more than she should... and keeps trying to get him to actually open up to her. She has an intuitive knowledge that he's keeping the true him hidden from her and everyone, and wants to break through his armor and bring him into the light...while he, on the other hand, wants to keep himself hidden. What really annoys her is how blind he is to her

As with all OFM members, Naomi has received extensive training for black ops and covert interventions, and is particularly fond of using flashbangs. Her bond with her teammates is strong and firm, and about the only person in the Order she doesn't really get along with is Sergeant Aleksndr "Psycho" Nagant, demolitions specialist; she's always wary and a tad skittish around him, and finds his childlike delight in blowing things up to be downright creepy at times.

Well, she has the next ten years to get used to him.

If she can stay alive (and sane) long enough, Naomi is destined for great things - but she's all too aware of the fate of her predecessor as Lance 2. Till then, all she can do is her best, to prove herself to her flightmates, her friends, her "family"...

...and to the man she loves, whom she would do anything for..

...If only he'd just wake up and realise the depth of her feelings for him.

The picture below was taken by Emili at a school open day, where Naomi's class had a maid cafe theme. Naomi's attempt to get a reaction out of Franz failed as he arrived drained and worn out from another Unlimited Paper Works session. She was most upset he was more interested in coffee and food than her.

Device:
Naomi's device is a Mid-Childan staff named Sparrow. Sparrow was based off the design of Emili's Sidewinder, as both were Ice specialists. Naomi has a flair for bombardment spells and prefers to use them when available; many of her spells are identical to Emili's; no surprise, since the latter is her teacher. While she prefers ranged combat, she's also decently skilled in close combat, as both Glen and Franz have noted that it's harder to take down a mage with ranged combat compared to getting up in their face and punching their lights on (or kicking them in the balls). And kicking Franz in the gut is very, very satisfying indeed...

In Spear Form, Sparrow is a spear, of a design close to the Japanese naginata; in this form, Naomi can wield it quickly to intercept attacks, and has found its greater length and reach helps to give her an advantage against sword-wielders. In Staff Form, it resembles something like the Lance of Longinus, with a blue gem between the two prongs.

Barrier Jacket: Naomi's Barrier Jacket consists of a white gi and a blue skirt of similar style to Nanoha's miniskirt & extension, except that it's a one piece garment (aka from miniskirt, back longskirt). She wears black thigh socks ("It's for the zettai ryouiki appeal and to look cool") and white shoes, and has skirt and shoulder armor panels. Unlike Fate, this is her close combat form, balancing power and protection; her ranged combat form drops the skirt and armor, putting the remaining power into dodging speed and bombardment power, relying on evasion instead of tanking.

Okay, by god, it's done. Last are spells, and then I can get on with writing...

But... now that I think of it, there might be a purpose to this crazy idea. I mean all we've been doing is creating OCs to basically fight, fight and fight. Why not do something silly and different for a change and place CCs and OCs in a soccer field instead of the battle field? Use the abilities that they have for entertainment instead of battle. See how do they use their abilities differently in different situations. Do you envision your characters to do nothing but combat and romance? Do something different, break out of the mold!

This may be my attempt to expand the world of MLSN beyond combat. Currently only AImost Pure's Minea, Lowe's Matsuri and Keroko's Syn are the only characters that have nothing to do with the combat side of MSLN that I know of. I'm starting to feel that all the epic battles, 'romantic' romance and such in the thread are getting a bit stale. Sure they are epic and full of win but too much of a good thing isn't that good. I'm trying to bring a breath of fresh air in via this silly soccer match crack and my in-creation OC Kamikaze Kyouka, age 8, street rat and upcoming lyrical magic user.
