Definitely going to keep watching this. The first episode really was outstanding to introducing the the character's and background. The introduction of the battle in the other world really ate up a lot of the budget though.

Have to say this really was a fun first episode. Quite the clash between the world they started in with all that action and then where they ended up. I suppose that will teach him to pick a fight he can't win

. Ending wasn't bad either.

Good laughs, and just a fun episode.

Seriously, I just saw the manga for this a few days ago. Then hear that it's being animated right off the bat this season. Oh how I was enjoying the first episode so very much. Gonna tag along with this simply because it's unique to me in many senses

Chiho looks like SAO's Silica. All she needs is her little dragon partner and I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

This seems to be a common trend now. Serious straight opening like the Kotoura-san anime to reel you and then bam! It's a light hearted love comedy slice of life.

Good show and I can see the effort in it. Never had time to read the novels; will probably just stick with the anime. And the foreign language was a blast

Actually, from what I've seen of the manga, it switches between "Happy-fun time at MgRolands" slice of life and "OMGSPLSIONS" combat. So all that stuff at the beginning? We get to see that type of fight in the show.

Edit: Just a guess here, but how much would anyone bet that it turns out that either
a) the war was the humans fault
b) Maou lost on purpose to end the war
c) humans killed Maou's parents
d) some other reason that = Maou was a good guy the whole time

Well, what do you expect?

It’s a war, and a traditional one at that. Of course there will be some butchering and slaying and pillaging, and maybe even worse things than what was presented on-screen. That little girl is just the tip of an iceberg XP.

I wasn't bothered by that very much, but it did really stand out. I'll quote word for word what my response to that scene was:

"Aw..."

Edit: Also, now that I've actually finished the first episode I have to admit that this may be one of my favorite pilots I've seen in years. This series should be pretty awesome if this first episode is anything to go off of. Hataraku Maou-sama!, there is much power in that name...

Definitely would watch till the end. It's pretty fun and from what I read in the manga chapters there are some subplots here and there too.

How many cours will this be again?

Lol, this turned into one hell of a comedy. I didn't expect much from this show and didn't think it was something I'd follow but it turned out to be awesome.

oh my the only reaction to say on it all yep “the mighty maou-same has fallen & now working in a mcdonalds”.

yea maou-sama ruling a lot til hero arrive cue him & sidekick travel to modern japan with weird language, low on magic, etc now live as normal people.

even more maou-sama working in a “mcdonalds” indeed how the mighty has fallen & yikes maou-sama got face hero in japan yet the hero is a WOMAN?!

overall this could quite the ha i need to see.

13 episodes for a comedy is not actually a bad thing as comedy can get repetitive (and well there is always a chance for another season).

The heroine had very short screentime but she already gave off the tsundere vibes (not that I'm complaining

)
I wonder whether the other three generals will go to this world as well.

Really looking forward to the next episode.

I know. I just really, really liked this premiere and felt sad knowing it'll only last one cour for now

. Of course it could go downhill from here on but fingers crossed!
