Of course, until pricing, availability, content offered, and what are the limitations vs actual cable is revealed, this doesn't mean anything... but if it's very very competitive... MS is going to be literally blindsided. Quote:

If it is true that Sony is willing to make literally zero profit from this streaming service for 5 years, it would really hurt MS. As MS clearly wanted to make money from the TV division. At the very least it would force MS to make the same concessions.

Isn't this massively better than what MS has right now? The XBox one's entire awesome thing is that it has an HDMI in that let's you plug your cable box into it and thus have an xbox one overlay over your tv stuff.
With this, sony has the same thing except it's all happening inside a single environment without the need for an exterior cable box and subscription. All you need is internet service, and assuming the subscription fee for this sony tv thing is comparable to what you pay for regular cable service, sony's offering seems much simpler to use.

What Sony is trying to accomplish isn't something new, it's just that everyone who tried to get it done has failed miserably. We need to know how 'competitive' this IPTV service actually is against the respective cable offerings first. There's definitely more to it than meets the eye, if only because content owners want to have their cake, eat it, and have 3 more cakes as well. And there's also no guarantee Sony will be able to sign every partner on this service.

they produce movies, music and tv shows themselves. Unlike MS, Sony don't require a 3rd party company for content.

If Xbox 1 fails miserable this year, it could be a blessing in disguise for Microsoft. Microsoft could get better after this ordeal. Nevertheless, Sony is now poking the "dead body" with a stick now.
Wish the same can be said about Electronic Arts, has their policy for 80 dollars games official or still a rumor? |

This. At least here in my neck of the woods Sony owns 4 or 5 of the most watched cable tv channels, they would only need to add those to the ps4 to get quite a few people interested. It's a lot easier to do these kinds of deals when you actually have leverage over the people you're negotiating with.
