Darker Than Black II OAD - Episode 01 Discussion

It's here! Seen on a Japanese streaming site. And it should please all of us, whether we liked season two or not. As someone who did like season two, I loved ep1 of the OVA.

Start with the attack in the factory/refinery, during which Hei offs a bunch of Organization guys. Hei and Yin in Okinawa on a "honeymoon trip" during which they sleep in separate beds. Hei jumpy and alert for danger. Yin her apparently affect-less self, but clearly wanting to be close to him, grabbing his shirt-tail, his hand, following him when he said not to because it was dangerous, lying awake in her bed seeming to want to go to him. He always seems to be a bit angry and going ahead. She orders a huge dinner for them, because she knows how he eats, but he is afraid of attracting attention in the almost deserted resort. Still, he eats, and she even nibbles a piece of cucumber. He holds her in that evening scene, saying he will never leave her alone, and she says: "Liar."

A new hotel guest arrives, a woman who looks like Amber, but isn't. Hei is talking to her and Yin feels jealous. A Genji-like scene in which Yin's observation ghost half-chokes the woman when she is sitting on her room's balcony having a drink (liquid). She does turn out to be a contractor, and she and her henchmen kidnap Yin. Hei is cornered by the woman contractor, whose ability is to turn a contractor against themselves. Hei is able to rescue her because Yin herself turns the woman contractor's hand against herself, making her shoot herself rather than Hei (the beginning of Izanami's power). Hei, embracing her, says: "Don't leave me alone." And she holds him. The end.

Doesn't sound as exciting as I had hoped.

It's just a 1st episode... And I think it's great, it will be definitely much more exciting than 2nd season Cause it can't be worst

Yeah I know... I can't help it... I'm so disappointed after 2nd season, that I think everything would be better than that...
Especially when it's something about Hei - dark ripper + Yin, not hobo one + another loli...

I really think, heh, I hope so, I won't be disappointed. And for now, after watching next preview of OVA, when I can see action, Hei kicking asses, new contractors and Yin talking a lot ! It must be good!... ...at least ?
I know I have to wait to rate it, but my first impression is really good...

At first I thought he was a Doll but then seeing him get pissed tells me otherwise...

Well, that was pretty awesome. I definately prefer this over S2... It had pretty good action scenes, especially the beginning, and the music placement was pretty well-done. I liked it alot.

And so that Amber look-alike was actually a shapeshifter dude who has other Contracter powers like illusions and not dying after shooting himself in the head? And that dog with the woman's voice, she almost seems like the boss of things to me... Maybe another Contractor?

Whew. So many new characters and possibilities...

P.S. I loved the Hei x Yin scenes... Including the meal at the hotel

That kid is definitely a doll... 1. He says Hei is coming 2. for what the hell would they have a kid in team ? Being a doll is only reason for him to be there...
And don't u remember ? Dolls are "evaluating" is some way, Amber said that...
If Yin can love, can feel, can be jealous, can act on her own, why other dolls can't ? And for me that kid was jealous

And that black dog... I think it's that woman from 2nd episode, u can see her in a preview, she is contractor...
But I don't understand one thing...
what the hell happened with Ambers look-alike body ? first we can see her dead, that dog is talking something to her body, and then we can see a young man (who looks like her x_X), holding flower, which she used to smell ? Was she that guy or what ?!

Btw. great episode, I really love that ^^ can't wait for the next ep...

Oi, oi... This one episode is more interesting than the entire season 2.
Besides the twintails...

Pretty interesting and nice to see Hei back in action, but I don't have interest in the relationship between Hei and Yin, and besides, the ending result of their little run-away is already known.

Good action from the start, and good holiday mood in the middle, Hei x Yin is just priceless.

It seem like Hei already know she will change(?)...

I love the episode but... i hate Yin and Hei paring.... i really hate it...
I love it when Hei saw that Amber like contractor... he really freak out..., even when he was eating with Yin, he cant keep his eyes out of her...

Prequels are funny things, because you know what happens in the end to the main characters and so you watch in a different light. Things that you might have spent ages wondering about you already know, and things you might not have even noticed can become almost unbearably poignant. This particular prequel has even more of a resonance for me personally because of some things in my own past. After watching it, I wanted to wake up and find that S2 was only a nightmare, just like Hei.

Heh, exactly what i was thinking.

It was pretty good, and just going by the first episode, i can see that i'll end up enjoying this a lot more then the second season. The interaction between Hei and Yin is as expected, though at the same time rather adorable (yeah i went there). & of course, there's plenty of lol here with Hei at the beach.

There's a few fight scenes, and the animation is just as good as the second season. Will have to check out the blurays at some point, because it's well worth it.

& now for the best part, Yin. Second season did not deliver any Yin at all, and this first episode alone makes up for it. The questions do start to pile up regarding her evolution, though for now i don't care, and would rather look at her in that dress and ponytail.

Still not sure if we're going to be happy with how Ryuusei no Gemini ended (I mean, how in the world did Yin go from being so deliciously evil back to being her near-emotionless self again?)...but can't wait til March!!

Lol...I just grinned when I realised that they were in Okinawa.

Although trying to figure out exactly where is a bit more difficult...the sign in the market (マチグワカイユーメンソーチェビーサヤー) seems to be based on one from a market in Naha, but the market and the hotel/resort seem really empty for Okinawa for summer (admittedly, I think it could be anytime from April to October), not to mention that the ferry terminal is remarkably small... Of course, that's assuming that the Okinawa in this universe is as popular a tourist destination as it is in our world today.
