Durarara!! (1st season) generic discussion thread

A fairly promising start.

Mikado Ryūgamine is a bit overly milquetoast for my taste, but the rest of the cast (so far) comes across very well.

The premise of this anime is pretty unusual, and when combined with the alluring scenery and visuals, this anime gives off a definitive "cool" vibe.

The ED animation is pretty sweet.

The use of text messages to push the plot along was kind of neat at first... but it seemed a bit overused by the end of the episode.


Overall, a pretty tight first episode, and I'm definitely looking forward to more.

A very cool start i loved the first episode and im was fairly impressed which is kind of hard to do nowadays. Im definitely looking forward to more. Talk about your first day in Tokyo being memorable lol.

Oh how i just love this, especially the color format. Can't wait for the rest, including future high res versions.

I keep getting this feeling that I'm watching modern Baccano!, the whole Motorcyclist idea reminds me of Rail Traicer, plus kidnapping, crazy guys and stuff like that.

I really disliked Baccano! on a screen in the middle of an episode though, WHY JACUZZI SPLOT?!

Second volume is absolute love, it's the sort of cover I might impluse buy (if the price wasn't too high). The pink and black constrat looks great.

The proportions looks slightly off in the first volume, hopefully they'll fix it for the proper release.

Hmmm... To me, it felt EXACTLY like Baccano along with a lot of borderline unnecessary banter. Also, could they have gotten any lazier with the OP? It's the SAME style as Baccano's.

Not too bad, but just like with Baccano, it somewhat tests the patience to hear all that banter when they could just pass it along with action instead. Which is what it somewhat boils down to. Oh well. At least its quality is a lot better than Baccanos. No more wiggly-noodles-animation.

About the OP being the same style as Baccano's . . . though I find it cool, I still prefer that they used a different style. To show on how much more unique ideas this brilliant staff could come up with xD Hehe.

But hhhmmm . . . maybe by doing that they're advertising Baccano in a way. It lacks recognition so much . . .

I don't mind the OP being exactly the same as Baccano ! Not only does it still looks cool, it also helps a lot in learning the names of the tons of characters. I guess they could have tried to make it a little different but oh well.

The DVD covers look pretty nice. I can't wait until Anri and Izaya are introduced.

Eh, this wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. There's even more homages to Baccano this time - the OP has a "What happened last time" segment somewhere inbetween, and we flash back to previous events, but from different viewpoints. Anyway, I just think that the segments making up this episode were dragged out too much, especially at the beginning, after the school part. Next episode preview looks very interesting, though.

That was highly, highly unexpected. They fleshed out even more of Orihara's character than I expected. The entire episode is literally spent on one character, whereas the last one had like introduced almost the entire cast.

I must admit it is quite boring. The re-cap in the OP I thought was a nice touch, but then afterward there are still a little too much re-cap for my taste with the stock footages. It is worth it in the end in my opinion. The intro scene for Orihara is different in the novel, but I definitely prefer the anime one more.

The part where they had him walking on the edge of the roof definitely shows his character very nicely. I feel like I'm that school girl. On the one hand, he is the one that I can confide to, but he is also the one that screws you over in the first place. The scene definitely had a much bigger impact than the novel.

I'm still amazed they spent an entire episode on him though. Also, I laughed when the Headless Rider shaked its head after seeing the vending machine flying up in the air.

-Was kinda surprised with Seiji's blatant and eccentric statement about not wanting to go to school and make friends... Eccentric character number one spotted! Interesting narrations over the characters is interesting though.
-Oh God, oh God, oh God~ I can't believe it but Izaya's actions, in which I don't know where to put and understood at this time of moment, actually makes me like him more The scene where he suggests the girl whoever she is since I don't put much attention to her 89 was buying me all over~!
-Certy, I agree and approve with what you do when you saw the vending machine flew to the sky: Shake your head. *nods*
-Holy shit. I seriously love the rooftop sequence. Be it the part Izaya went all twisted, when he just brushes off the girl, and and... Oh my, sorry, but I'm too hyper on his introduction here~
-Kida, get a sense of commonness here please -w-;; I still snerk a bit on the last scene with Kida.
-Personally I hope the girl just not get involved anymore for the reason I don't like the archetype 8)b I would be better knowing her for just this one episode lmao Though I guess big props for her for being a 'plot device' this time to flesh out Izaya and bring some of Certy's personality very bits

It's interesting to note that there are traces of simpler Baccano! technique they use here. I found the repetition in Baccano!, albeit interesting since the same scene got repeated in different angle, got reused too much. ^ ^; So I was quite happy that it doesn't make me want to Fast Forward~

... Reused footage scene aside though 8D; Certy's reused footage could be reduced imho, but that's minor thing.

The main treat here would be Kamiya voicing Izaya here, personally I didn't think he would be able to pull of playful but still contains tone of cynicism (err... Of sorts) here, but oh wow, I love his Izaya so much, all came off in one perfect combination of dangerous and bastard-ish but very interesting in every sorts that you can't help but to get attracted to him. Yes, Izaya is not someone you can trust and is on, idealically put, 'good' way but damn, anything he did and think just attract me. More development for him is just gonna be a win-win situation for me B)b

Definitely more interesting than the first episode, especially since Yagiri Seiji was unexpected in good sense during his very short introduction. Though evidently, I was all over for Izaya's here. ;-w- C'mon, having Kamiya went 腹黒 and all twisted on you is one rare treat!!!

I'm still not seeing the direction this is supposed to go but I'm patient enough to wait for it (even if worst case it is not revealed until at least a quarter of the airing; which is not the case imho). I'm pretty much preferring some fleshing out and connect with the character better in early episodes than to compensate with long-winded, dragged out exposition and 'lol-surprise-not' in the latter part, for sure.

So yeah, expect all out fangirling for girls here

Wow! Izaya sure is a Master Level Troll. All setup that just because he wanted see her die. Quite an introduction, don't buy the fact he didn't have anything to do with the earlier death either.

Cetly/Setly also turned out a bit more benevolent than I thought surprising enough not only does she know, but what seems to be a partner working with her. lol at her reaction to the random vending machine throwing.

Too bad we got a brief glimpse of Anri and Seiji who as Natsuki seems rather "eccentric".

Overall quite a good episode. Next we get Shizuo and more Anri!
