Depending on which route we take.

More optimistic route might have them took different path of career, while cynical route warrants breakdown and shattered career.

DEFEATED Cadet rep however, are different kettle of fish.

What if they retire willingly? Wold the government just accept their resignation? Many reasons such as family, sickness or stress can lead to this.

Of course they can, if they're fired then it's a problem. However, I believe financial and social support is part of what a Cadet Rep get.

releasing radioactive material in the air can result in acid rain to say the least. Mass spread of radiation and long term decay should follow.

I assumed she was kicked out because she ditched the Mondo Grosso and used her IS for non-official combat to attack the kidnappers.

Side note - So did Kanzashi just take the test and get the spot?

Even if they wanted to, they can't. Chifuyu ran off but didn't cause any serious injuries or destruction so the offense was as minor as can be. Cue in her past merit as brunhilde and she was trying to save her younger brother. She'd receive suspension of IS related events as well as probable probation at that time. Normally her personal IS would be taken away but I think they wanted to keep it in storage to wait for her.

During this "possible suspension", she goes to Germany and does her work(notice she does not seem to have Kurazakura in her possession). She returns to Japan and decides to support her younger brother because her being an IS pilot causes Ichika danger. She is aware of Tabane and the loss of the original Byakushiki frame which contains the core of Chifuyu's original IS. Chifuyu decides to seal Kurezakura so it won't be taken away by Tabane as well.

summary of what I understand.

In other words, she thrown the position, but the official haven't erase her from the list. And bear in mind, Kanzashi still CADET Rep, which means there's a good chance she's getting kicked anyway, if Chifuyu somehow wanted to resume it.
