Why would it? Actually, in the recent chapters, Eri has been doing exactly what Yuki was doing at first, so I don't think it'd be considered such an impossibility in terms of the story(but it could be considered an impossibility in terms of the genre)

I actually think Eri and Utsumi accidentally became best friends without trying since the time that Yuki and him stopped talking originally. I really don't think that it would be too far fetched for Eri and Utsumi to end up as the final pairing and actually like the parallel that they have to how Utsumi and Yuki originally were.

Oh this good old formula, at some point this comes up at every romance series' fanbase: Why doesn't [insert male protagonist here] hook up with [insert female side char with least romantic connection]?

Eri end would be kind of funny I'd have to admit. They do occupy the non lovey-dovey circle Yuki and Utsumi were in earlier. And the megane and loli haven't been introduced yet, nor the childhood friend. Anything's possible. Have I forgot a cliche yet?

The trinity works quite well though.. past..utsumi.. present Yuki .. possible future Risa. I don't see why they'd mess around with it except to liven things up but it doesn't seem necessary yet and has already been done to death (in some cases literally :P )

Is currently on chapter 33 , but catching up fast . This manga is pretty amazing, it always keeps me on the edge of suspense and I awkwardly notice that I'm always smiling extremely hard when reading it O_O. Haha . Anyways, hoping to catch up soon.

Chapter 41 "Question"

p. 96 - Shou's lines from the last page of chap 95

p. 97 - Shou's friends asks her why "it would be too bad/cruel" to confess and if something happened, Shou replies no. The friend then continues with other stuffs like if there is a problem about bf etc till when they become !! when they see Yuki and Ucchi outside.

p. 98 - Shou's friend (can't remember her name) asks to Yuki and Ucchi since when they were there, Yuki replies that they just arrived (lie, of course). Then Shou's friend is clearly restless when she blabs something about how they were just surprised etc, then they depart.
Shou's friend tells to Shou that they probably (maybe?) heard everything since from when they were they could hear, but Shou replies that they weren't talking in a loud voice so it whould be okay.

p. 99 - Shou notices that the window was opened (lulx at her face). Then her and her friend's keep talking about if Yuki and Ucchi heard them or not (Shou is quite agitated), than her friend says to Shou "this "pulse" is fine, isn't it?".

p. 100 - Shou says "about this...i don't understand"

p. 101 - The guy that is playing with Ucchi tells him wtf is he doing since he is playing crappy and if he is even there. Of course Ucchi doesn't give a **** about tennis, since he is thinking about how he should face Shou at morning practice and what is the right thing to do, then...

p. 102 - ...he things that he heard the whole think together with Yuki and wonders what she is thinking about it. After practice, Ucchi tells Yuki that since she is weak in the morning if he should wake her up by phone, and than she asks if she will come to morning practice...

p. 103 - and Yuki replies "i'll have to think about it..." (add ice storm here). Shou notices that Ucchi is sad while looking at Yuki going away.

p. 104 - Ucchi complains about how he can't concentrate with his homework and that he doesn't understand why he is so unrest (not sure about it, but the words are correct)

p. 105 - Ucchi remembers about 1 year ago, when a "stranger" (Kento) became the "one liked" and how He looked at Shou being satisfied (EWWW Ucchi you dirty) with Kento, then he wonders about himself now (the comparison i was talking about before)
BUT then he thinks that now he has a girl (Yuki) to chase after and why he turned her face away from her, then again he thinks about what he should do.
At last, he things about how to finish to wound her (sorry i'm not sure about this one, there is a "no one" but i don't understand what he is trying to say).

p. 106 - Yuki melancholically looking at Ucchi sms : "Are you awake?"

p. 107 - Ucchi reads Yuki's answer, about a lame excuse like her aunt going to work early in the morning so she has to look at the house, so she can't come.

p. 108 - Ucchi thinks that "maybe" he made a mistake, but now he is remembering how he felt down, and his feelings, when he saw Shou and Kento together, and that at all costs...

p.109 - ...he doesn't want the same thing to happen.
After saying good morning to Shou, Ucchi thinks how he is making things strange while beeing tense, then they talk about how morning practice is lonely and Shou replies that at last during the day they do better.

p. 110 - Ucchi thinks about no matter how he acts/face her, he doesn't understand what's the best thing to do and that he should at last control his feelings. While they play tennis, he notes how normal Shou looks normal and starts to think that maybe he misheard her. But...

p. 111 - he immediately understands that's not it, that she isn't normal (he remember what she sayd about not telling him), she perceive (that he heard) and that she is just acting normal. He thinks that he should act too as if everything is okay, being normal, a normal senpai and a kouhai (the opposite of senpai)...

p. 112 - ...doing as if he didn't heard anything.
Various talking between Shou and Ucchi about how she wants to take a shower, that Ucchi is grateful to her for helping him etc, the point is that Ucchi tells Shou that he asked Yuki to come to morning practice and that she can't come. Then the bombshell by Shou : "Hey, Utsumi-kun...

p. 113 - ...could it be..that you like Yuki?" and Ucchi replies with a manly "E..."

I guess any guy's sense of reason will waver. I forget that it's supposed to be pitch dark for them so I was confused when she said she couldn't see him.

And why are the girl's changing in such a convenient location? And with an wide open open like that? I guess they were using their club room or what have you? In the US people use locker rooms to change in. And they'd freak out if a guy saw them changing...meanwhile they keep a window wide open. I sure didn't think he'd hear her confess. I was thinking he'd walk by and see them by accident before anything was heard, lol.

Dang man, can't Utsu get a break!? Well, at least we know he's human. Usually, the guy would def have pushed the girl off, but here, he knows he couldn't stop his temptations, which I find refreshing.

From the first panel of that part, I figured it was going to happen, but as you said, usually, the guy would stumble in before the girl says it. Still, I know it's unavoidable in this kind of genre, but I disliked that generic plot convention(walking in on a girl at the exact time) =0\.
