Yuki Mori seems to be an odd choice for a mole. She seems to be the first person to know about the Yamato Plan in terms of the ship's "future" crew. She's the one that gets the message from the Kirishima that Sasha's ship has arrived, thus Yuki has been in the loop since before the First Fleet sailed. She mentions "Yamato" while Kirishima is on its way home from Mars following the pickup of Kodai and Shima. Also I've noticed that she's on the panel (for lack of a better word) when Okita is giving his speech to the recruits for the Yamato Plan. She's up in stage at the desk with the Flag Officers. To me this means she's basically the first crew member. There should be a reason for that. If she is Yurisha, than there might be a reaction to her older sister being dead on Mars having not reached Earth like she did. There is no indication of that...at least in relation to Kirishima coming home. I'm not sure what to make of her confrontation with Kodai over Operation M being a distraction and the location of Admiral Okita. That seems more to be a show of her being serious rather than the more gentle nurse we saw in the original at this time in the show. Though the scene with the golden compact with the green light does cast some rather odd shadows on just who Yuki Mori is...or maybe what she is.

In the original, Yuki Mori was a pretty nurse ("best nurse") when we see her for the first time. Later we see her tend to Kodai and Shima's wounds from their crash landing when Kodai and Shima are called to take a trip to an unspecific location by an air car. When they arrive, Yuki Mori is already there on the Yamato's bridge in her new uniform (probably sitting in what would be Kodai's chair since you can't see her at first in the long shot, but pops out from behind Okita, who was standing near that chair, in the closeup). This is never explained, though she does giggly slightly at their stunned expression of her being there. Plus she is compared to both Starsha and Sasha a few times over the course of the series. Sometimes with layovers of Sasha or Starsha's faces over Yuki's for added effect.

But there are more women this time around, with different writers. So anything can happen this time around.

There are examples in history of turning over died people from one grave to return to their home contry for burial.

I'm not entirely sure what Kodai and Shima knew going into their mission to Mars. They knew enough to bring the capsule home, but then they only had a relativelt small recon fighter to get fromthe surface to the Kirishima. They likely have no knowledge of Yurisha before the announcement prior to boarding Yamato. We don't know when they reported the death of the alien passager to Earth. Either right after they got back to base camp, when they report that they got the package that allowed the Kirishima to break off the engagement. Or if that wasn't reported until they boarded Kirishima itself...or even when the vesel arrived back on Earth. It depends on how open or closed their transmissions were since they were using code to keep the Gamilus from knowing what was going on.

Or at least using codes to a point. The combat chatter seemed to be on an Earth frequency since Yukikaze's crew was listening in before Kodai turned them around to head into the fight. Plus Okita's direct video conversation with Kodai at the end of the battle was likely not all that secure compared to the morse style lamp signaling they were doing for ship to ship orders earlier.

Either way we are not sure when Sasha's death was reported, though Yuki is quite present when news comes that Kirishima has picked up the package and is making directly for Earth from Mars...though we don't know exactly how long that took compared to the three weeks spent from Pluto to Mars. Just that Kodai and Shima are still in only their space suits the entire time. (I suppose that was the only uniform they had for the trip...they'll be rather ripe after six plus weeks. Plus Kirishima is still a Zero-G starship. No water showers...Zero-G toilets....fun stuff.)

However, Yuki being Yurisha is possible. I doubt there was a repeat of the scene form the original parade with Yuki's parents wanting her to stay. Also this brings up something interesting. It won't be in the second film, but in the old run and in the live action movie, were is the last messages to Earth scenes were everyone (except Okita and Kodai) have a talk with loved ones back on Earth for maybe five or so minutes at a time. This would be in the third film if done at all. In the original Yuki's mother was still trying to marry her off to someone and finding suitors, partly in a way to keep up hope that her little girl would be coming home...this is of course just before she starts really having feeling for Kodai.

If she is Yurisha...Yuki won't have anyone to talk to on Earth, like Kodai and Okita. will that change the character dynamic? Will it even come up? The Messages to Earth scenes were sort of a powerful reminder of what they were doing before and also sort of heartbreaking in some cases. It was a short break in the action between the defeat of the Pluto Base Forces and before running into Dessler's defenses and scheme of the week. It was also were they did the insert of the Scarlet Scarf song into the series as they left the Solar System and communications range for for the next seven or so months...barring Gamilus relay satelites (a plotline that seemed off in their approach to Balan in the original run....also the entire notion of Aihara (Homer) jumping ship to swim home in a spacesuit is entirely illogical...and thus likely to be removed from the new run).

As for Sasha...they might not bring her home this time around. But maybe Starsha will want her little sister's body to rest on Iscandar, with the rest of her people. So later, after they return home and Earth is safe, Yamato can go on a cruise back to Iscandar to deliver Sasha home. And by then...potentally...pickup another Sasha, who seems fairly popular to this day...even though she was fuctionally only in one movie.

As for goodbyes on Earth i don't know if Yuki is seen with her parents or not (guess that would either disprove her as an alien or give creedence to her being a vessel for one). We see Tokugawa with his family, especially his grandaughter (Kathleen in SB), Shima with his brother (wich is the "main kid" in Yuki's class), Akira cutting her hair and Kodai in what i'm guessing is Mamoru's appartment. This may be a way of putting the goodbyes from the original's ep. 10 out of the way, as you say.

The inclusion of some of those characters in Tim Eldred's version of the Rebirth story made it feel more real to me than the 2009 movie from Japan. Even though I liked the Japanes film as well (aside from a personal issues I have with the music not fitting scenes from about halfway into the film to near the ending. Though I think they fixed that in the Director's Cut, I've not seen that version yet), the webcomic seemed to fit the character (at least of the Star Blazers style) better. Though I suppose having the crew of Yamato be partially generational and having pretty much anyone that survived have a high ranking position in the fleet is very Star Trekish, it felt right having (Kathleen) and Miyuki serving on the "Argo". As well as having various relatives to older crew members assigned to the ship. It felt like it should. Along with Desslok of course...can't have a version without him effectively...right?

As for 2199: it will be interesting to see what they decide to do for those middle episodes. The ones that can be altered without effectively changing the plot, nor the potental sequels in any measureable way.

I take the movies (the 1976 version of the original and the live action version in 2010) to see what the main elements of the plot that remained nearly or completely intact were so a messure of what they will probably keep come post-Pluto 2199.

Though as I've mentioned before, I'm hoping for Yamato: 2201...because with today's technology, I really want to see the Andromeda and the EDF in action against the Comet Empire's fleets. Even though that series was probably the best written and animated of the while series...there are things you can do today that you could not do in 1978.

A whole fleet of ships is doing battle in the Shizuoka Hobby Show. The Gamilas ships look pretty impressive. 1/1000 scale (damn!!! my 1/500 Yamato will be off scale XDDD )

Assuming I am not presented with something more interesting to play out by September, I plan an running a modified version of the Battle of Pluto using a slightly modified version of the Star Blazers Fleet Battle System. This will be at Celesticon in California.

I intend to modify the ship specs to reflect the new 2199 version. This means larger ships for some (not a lot larger) and making up an Earth cruiser. I will be using mostly miniatures from Musashi Enterprises, but also some candy toys to reflect scale for the larger ships.

We also will need to come up with something to fill in for the Earth cruiser type on the table top. Will either use a candy toy Yukikaze for the cruisers (with the "Lightning" miniatures being the destroyers) or paint some of the odder shaped Earth battleships from much later on in old style colors ans make them look like the cruisers verses the larger Kirishima candy toy/model.

Only a few days before other people start getting their copies of Yamato2199 disc 1.

Though at the current exchange rate, getting disc 1 and 2 seems to be about $140 US on amazon.jp. A little out of my price range since I also need to puchase a BD player to do anything with them (never had a need for one until now). Maybe a little later when I have more funds.

Same thing with the new models. I'm certain some of them will show up in the area eventually, but until then I will make due with what I have access to presently.

I downloaded this movie once because it was at the top of the tracker for an asian media torrent site that I use, but I found it pretty corny and couldn't finish.

Which movie? There are lots of them. Animated and live action. From the 1970s, 1980s, 2000s, and 2010s. (Note that Space Battleship Yamato 2199 won't be out on DVD for a few more days, so it wasnt this movie)

As long as you didn't pick up Space Cruiser with the really bad Englush dub from 1977.

My guess it the live action movie.

Eh. Something like that happens to almost every show. And I can see how someone could call it "corny" depending on what version they saw and what else they were exposed to before seeing it. While Yamato has aged well for the most part, some dubs of it come off a little weird depending on how ones views these sorts of things.

The indication of movie recently suggests one of three things. The Live Action film (which is a bit different from everything else). The Yamato: Resurrection film from 2009, which I can't call corny, but not the best work of the series. Or the 1977 film...which is alright, if editted weird sometimes. If it was that film, it could have been the English dub...which is really bad. The pre-Star Blazers dub as the Star Blazers dub is fine (mostly).

Star Blazers does have places were they added dialog to scenes were in Japan no one was talking, or even on screen. Usually these were humorous additions:

(This is during the aftermath of a battle with Gamilon and all you see are scenes of the damage on the Argo and bodies of the crew on the floor. This is before Wildstar enters the scene and finds Nova outside crying. The Japanese scene was extended with only a wind noise until later you can hear Yuki crying.)

or there to cover part of what might be a long explaination that wouldn't fit the character's screen time in translation from Japanese to English.

I am thinking this place probably needs a bunch of images from Pixiv dumped on it, but I have no account there.

Also I keep thinking there is a need for avatars and signatures, but my skills are limited to MS Paint and whatever images I can find. Suggestions for what people would like? The BD-DVDs come out Friday so I image a bunch more stuff will star showing up by next week as more and more people get their hands on those discs.

Much larger selection now that just Yuki. (Most popular on Danbooru seems to be Niimi Kaoru, though on Pixiv the popular one is Harada Makoto. Both after Mori Yuki of course.)

(Might be fair to have some of the guys shown as well...there are a lot more of them. But ships too I think)

Though my imagination says that most of them will die.

But then Akihiro Enomoto and Yutaka Izubuchi aren't Leiji Matsumoto or Yoshinobu Nishizaki. They might have a different ideology than those two who conflicted with each other several times as Yamato went on. Especially when it came to character deaths and motives for those deaths.

We will see how far they get into the combined story arcs over the course of 2199 to 2203-ish.

Though I had a thought about a theoretical third season. Yamato 2199 has a known arc that has a very defined beginning and a roughly defined ending. Yamato 2201 as a very tightly crafted story that can take two known paths depending on if the story follows the movie ending or the TV ending. The orignal third season was done after two films (one TV and one theatrical)...I would propose instead doing a third season out of those two films and elements of the another plotline that would setup the plot for a better version of what was the original third season.

Spoiler for Plot related stuff for the films and background for Yamato III (and long):

This proposed season sets up what was the original Yamato III by filling in the backstory and motivations of the other side that were more of less crammed into one or two episodes in the middle of the series that could (or should) have been expanded on. With that sort of out the way, a new version of Yamato 2203 could not only make the Galman's more interesting, but also could give room for the originally dropped plotline for Space Battleship Arizona even in a 26 episode TV series. Since the proposed Yamato 2199 story notes suggest they are going to make the Gamilus more interesting, the logical flow suggests that they could go as far as to make Dessler a main character (if he survives of course) and thus give him a core group of interesting characters for us to follow around at times when Yamato is not really doing anything.

She would be the one I'd expect to have a reason to toss flowers at Mars, as that would be her home. And when we see her next in the second act, it's been almost a month since the events in Mars and Pluto. So she would have plenty of time to mourn for her sister. Not to mention that actually showing her mourn Sasha would be letting the cat out of the bag. As for taking Sasha with them... really?! They burried her on Mars, 3 weeks latter when they leave Mars she is still burried (why show her grave if they were taking the body to Earth). Would they stop at Mars to dig her up after all that time? That would be a bit nasty!!! XDDD

(Battle of the Rainbow Galaxy Nebula) Use of a large missile to plug the Wave Motion Gun. Use of a suicide ship on the third bridge (many causulaties) Finding Iscandar and Gamilus having a duel nature. Destroying Gamilus after being forced to come there in order to reach Iscandar. Getting to Iscandar and receiving the means to save earth. (may or may not find a still living elder Kodai with Starsha). Learn the duel tragedy of the Iscandarians and Gamilus peoples. Return home...may or may not be attacked one last time by Dessler just before reaching Earth. Okita "dies" (depending on if they want to use the Final Yamato plot point or not) Earth is saved after Yamato's crew returns. Ithekro Gamilas Falls Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Republic of California Age: 46	Assuming I am not presented with something more interesting to play out by September, I plan an running a modified version of the Battle of Pluto using a slightly modified version of the Star Blazers Fleet Battle System. This will be at Celesticon in California. I intend to modify the ship specs to reflect the new 2199 version. This means larger ships for some (not a lot larger) and making up an Earth cruiser. I will be using mostly miniatures from Musashi Enterprises, but also some candy toys to reflect scale for the larger ships. We also will need to come up with something to fill in for the Earth cruiser type on the table top. Will either use a candy toy Yukikaze for the cruisers (with the "Lightning" miniatures being the destroyers) or paint some of the odder shaped Earth battleships from much later on in old style colors ans make them look like the cruisers verses the larger Kirishima candy toy/model. __________________

Though at the current exchange rate, getting disc 1 and 2 seems to be about $140 US on amazon.jp. A little out of my price range since I also need to puchase a BD player to do anything with them (never had a need for one until now). Maybe a little later when I have more funds. Same thing with the new models. I'm certain some of them will show up in the area eventually, but until then I will make due with what I have access to presently. __________________

(Note that Space Battleship Yamato 2199 won't be out on DVD for a few more days, so it wasnt this movie) As long as you didn't pick up Space Cruiser with the really bad Englush dub from 1977. My guess it the live action movie. __________________

(Most popular on Danbooru seems to be Niimi Kaoru, though on Pixiv the popular one is Harada Makoto. Both after Mori Yuki of course.) (Might be fair to have some of the guys shown as well...there are a lot more of them. But ships too I think) Though my imagination says that most of them will die. But then Akihiro Enomoto and Yutaka Izubuchi aren't Leiji Matsumoto or Yoshinobu Nishizaki. They might have a different ideology than those two who conflicted with each other several times as Yamato went on. Especially when it came to character deaths and motives for those deaths. We will see how far they get into the combined story arcs over the course of 2199 to 2203-ish. Though I had a thought about a theoretical third season. Yamato 2199 has a known arc that has a very defined beginning and a roughly defined ending. Yamato 2201 as a very tightly crafted story that can take two known paths depending on if the story follows the movie ending or the TV ending. The orignal third season was done after two films (one TV and one theatrical)...I would propose instead doing a third season out of those two films and elements of the another plotline that would setup the plot for a better version of what was the original third season. Spoiler for Plot related stuff for the films and background for Yamato III (and long): My proposal for a third season Yamato 2202 would start more or less with the as is Yamato: The New Yoyage story arc. (This would be the first two films/discs) It follows the exploits of Dessler as he heads back to Gamilus to say goodbye to it and Iscandar before going to find a new homeworld for his Empire. While he does this the Yamato, broken and newly crewless arrives back on Earth. Time passes and Yamato is repaired and a new cadet crew boards for their first training flight under the taskmaster that is Susumu Kodai. Back at Gamilus, Dessler finds an enemy has been strip mining his home while he's been off chasing Yamato around the galaxy in 2201. He is quite upset by this and attacks. Stuff happens, Gamilus is destroyed, Iscandar is flung into deep space. As the new production staff likes things to be logical, they will either come up with a reason for the planet to warp, or not having it warp at all. Dessler calls Earth, let Kodai know. Yamato heads out to Iscandar again...much more quickly as not only do they know the route, but also they have practical warping experiance now so they can push the engines harder than they dared in 2199. Meanwhile Starsha and Momoru Kodai won't leave Iscandar, despite Dessler's kindness. The new enemy, the Dark Nebula Empire, attacks Dessler's fleet, and he's forced to hold out against the odds until the superior tech Yamato (and human luck) arrives to break the enemy fleet. More stuff happens, Iscandar is destroyed to prevent it from falling into enemy hands (likely as Starsha's hand). Starsha and Momaru Kodai daughter Sasha survives with Kodai on Yamato. Dessler and Susumu Kodai part ways again. End of arc one. Here is where things change (third film): The plot follows Yamato home long enough to get it settled, but the next arc follows Dessler. By the end of Yamato 2201 he should be pretty much a main character with a well done stoyr arc already through Yamato 2199 and Yamato 2201. Now we get to follow his advantures to find a new homeworld with what is left of his forces. All the while he and his officers will get their own kind of character building or study as they encounter their own challenges as they go deeper into the Milky Way finding fellow Gamilus species and other races under the thumb of another Empire, the Bolar Federation. Dessler, with his Fleet and some stolen tech form the Comet Empire and what little they gained from the wreckage of the Dark Nebula ships cuts their way to the Core to liberate the planet Galman, ancient homewold of the Gamilus race. With a flush of victory, Desseler declares himself Emperor, and renames Galman's sister world Starsha. The second arc ends. We now return to Earth (fourth film). It has been many months since we last saw Kodai and the others. Yamato is no where to be seen. The Earth's defenses are mostly automated with what is left of the fleet out (maybe engaged against rogue Cometine units or exploring nearby worlds). This is the time the Dark Nebula launch their surprise invasion of the Solar System. The outer worlds are nuetralized and a giant Bomb lands on Earth followed by a massive invasion force. Earth's automated fleets attempt to defend Earth, but are destroyed fairly quickly due to them being new and untested. Earth is overrun rapidly before the rest of the Earth Fleets can respond. The Bomb acts as a insurance to keep the defenders away as Earth basically surrenders. But Yamato's crew (minus Yuki) escape. They board a refitted Yamato and brake out of the Solar System on a long range mission to disable the trigger device for the bomb (which for some reason in on the enemy homeworld...no every plot makes sense in Yamato). The wounded Yuki is captured and stuff happens. Yamato starts its long voyage to a galaxy some 400,000 Light Years away...no time limit is given...just that it will take a while to get there. This closes the third arc with Earth's fate in doubt, by Yamato on the way. The fourth arc takes us back to Dessler (fifth film). He's rebuild his Empire based on Galman and has had new even larger ships build to replace his aging 2199 era warfleet. His campaign to liberate his peoples from the Bolar starts to shift over the arc to one of pure conquest due to the ambition of his Galman generals (recently liberated and not part of the former Gamilus Empire). Dessler may hear news of Earth's fall to the Dark Nebula. He may even attempt to do something about it, but the Bolar hold his attention. This war continues for time until there is a stalemate and a tentative peace. A Cold War begins in the heart of the Milky Way between the Galman and Bolar. The fourth arc ends. The fifth arc begins with Yamato warping out near the enemy home galaxy (sixth film). It has again been some time since we've seen them. Added to the crew may be Kodai's niece Sasha (Starsha's daughter) if they decide to keep her alien biology/rapid maturing nature in tact. Sasha is rather popular so if it comes to that I fully expect it to be "logic be damned" in the production circle. The ship is likely understaffed as it was not fully ready for action when the invasion happened, so again she was some of the cadets from before, most of the surviving crew from 2199, and maybe a few other people. It is also possible that Mamoru Kodai is with them as Captain of Yamato...though Admiral Yamamani (formerly Captain of Kirishima) is also possible (that was wer ewe first saw him in Be Forever Yamato), if they don't leave it as Susumu Kodai's command since Okita promotes him in 2200 to "acting captain". Either way, Yamato gets into some large combat actions and shows off her new weapons which pretty much makes her unstoppable compared to before when they tended to lose until divine intervention arrives. The story more or less follows the rest of the Be Forever, Yamato plotline from this point on. Though the fate of Yamamani, Mamoru, and Sasha are up in the air depending on the whims of the producers. The Fifth arc ends with the destruction of the outer shell of the enemy homeworld and possible death of Sasha. The sixth arc starts with Yuki's fight on Earth to take control of the bomb and disable the trigger there (Seventh film). Back across the universe, Yamato fights the Dark Nebula homeworld defenses to gain access to the core, eventually destroying the planet. The last episode or two are epilogue for the two main character groups and to setup their eventual collision course in the next season. Yamato heads for home after whatever loses they've sustained. They ship needs to finish its refit and get a full crew again. Kodai's in charge again by the time they get to Earth, possibly having to deal with the remains of the enemy invasion force with elements of the remaining Earth Defense Fleet that had to keep their distance while Earth was threatened by the Bomb. Almost half a galaxy away, Dessler's Empire grows. His new Galman-Gamilus Fleets spead in an affort to counter the Bolar Federation outside the treaty zones. One of his new fleet admirals is showing great sucess, and happens to be on a path....for Earth. End Space Battleship Yamato 2202. This proposed season sets up what was the original Yamato III by filling in the backstory and motivations of the other side that were more of less crammed into one or two episodes in the middle of the series that could (or should) have been expanded on. With that sort of out the way, a new version of Yamato 2203 could not only make the Galman's more interesting, but also could give room for the originally dropped plotline for Space Battleship Arizona even in a 26 episode TV series. Since the proposed Yamato 2199 story notes suggest they are going to make the Gamilus more interesting, the logical flow suggests that they could go as far as to make Dessler a main character (if he survives of course) and thus give him a core group of interesting characters for us to follow around at times when Yamato is not really doing anything. __________________ Last edited by Ithekro; 2012-05-24 at 01:37.
