I'm not familiar with British teen dramas as the majority of teen dramas I've seen are American, but I have to disagree that Toradora wasn't Japanified. It definitely felt very Japanese.

1. Tsundere Female Lead (Taiga)- Check
2. Everyday Male Lead (Ryuujii)- Check
3. Love Triangle/Quadrangle - Check
4. Moe - Check
5. Air of "innocence", particularly in the way confessions are made or how the romance develops - Check

Not saying Toradora is in any way bad though, it is claimed to be one of the best high-school based slice of life/romance/drama/comedy out there by a lot of people.

Wow, this some serious miscommunication here.

When i mention "over-Japanified" and compare Toradora with Lucky Star, i'm talking about how Toradora characters don't talk about animes and anything that references Japan or otaku culture, like Lucky Star.

Unlike Lucky Star which requires you to be an otaku, Toradora is an easy to get into anime. As long as the advertising is done right, anyone can enjoy a show like Toradora!. I mean, you can put Toradora on a TV viewing block next to The OC or Skins, or next to a Hallmark channel show block and it fits! You can even put Toradora on a channel which shows gay porn, and people will still watch it!

And it's actually more meant for your girlfriend who has never watched an anime in his/her life. It's also good for your mom, or your sister, or your best friend, or gay best friend, and even good as a birthday present to President Barack Obama. Toradora is awesome in every level.

And speaking of seiyus, imagine Rie Kugimiya, Aki toyosaki, Ayana Taketatsu and Aya Hirano in one anime? It'd be like the Pulp Fiction of seiyus!
Well, that is why I said that Toradora! is a good anime to be made into a drama.
Aside from that, if Korean are the one that also made the drama, other half of the world who aren't Otaku might watch the series simple because the story is good. The Otaku half will definitely watch the anime but I am focusing on those who aren't.
These peoples usually loves Korean Drama so that is what made me think that Korean version of Toradora! might actually much more attractive than the Western simple because more peoples loves it (well, according to my place.)

As for the seiyuu, you forgot Itou Shizuka, Tanaka Rie and Fukuyama Jun!!!!

Well, Lucky Star is definitely CAN'T be made into a drama simply because it is confusing to anyone who ain't Otaku (Heck, I even still confuse at few points of the show....)
Aside from that, as stated above,
Toradora! is simple better if the Korean made it instead of Western, simple because the environment of Korea is kinda similar to Japan (Anybody watch Boys Over Flower? Yeah, that show is based on the series Hana Yori Dango)

After watching Toradora!, Ookami-san and Railgun, i noticed something great about JC Staff:

their use of colours are amazing.

KyoAni's K-On and BONES'S Star Driver might have done well in the color scheme use, but JC Staff manages to do it all without any flaw.

I love the use of colours in Ookami-san, especially episode 3. It's like every colour is shown in just 24 minutes. It's amazing!

Now that you mention it I've noticed it too; not so much about JC in particular, but when I see a show or promotional artwork thereof from some other studios, I'm often turned away by how the colors look washed-out, or drab. JC colors are usually very vibrant though.

I will have to disagree. The vast majority of anime including Toradora would be very difficult for a mainstream audience in the West to appreciate and enjoy because of cultural differences. It is also not meant to be for "everyone", Toradora is a clear example that has it prime demographic target to be people in their teens or in their early 20s for a East Asian audience AND one who is an anime watcher.

Western "slice of life" shows (aka Teen dramas and comedies) aimed at teenagers involve a lot of either toilet humor or wit/flair or "sexiness" with focal themes such as rebelling, partying, drinking and sex and the consequences of it. OC or One Tree Hill are examples of such teen dramas. Compare this to anime aimed at teenagers which involve cuteness and innocence and will often seem very childish/girlish to a Western viewer. To give an example, think of how confessions are made out in anime (this is an anime stereotype though as it does not happen in real life even in most parts of East Asia), including Toradora. Now have a look at how couples "go out/hook up" in Western Teen dramas/comedies - clear distinction.

Anime is an acquired taste. In my opinion, it will really turn a person off who has never watched anime before to make them jump in the deep end with popular slice of life shows like Clannad, Angel Beats, Toradora etc. Likely responses you'll get are "that's so childish/girly" or "only a loser would watch this". My mother who is an avid watcher of Korean dramas, thought that Clannad was way too childish, which I perfectly understand. I even tried to get her to watch some of my personal favorites such as Sola or True Tears which were even less "Japanified"/childish but that too didn't have that much success either, though it didn't invoke as a strong negative reaction as Clannad. By the way, I see Clannad and Toradora as reasonably similar in atmosphere with Clannad being more dramatic, whilst Toradora being more comedic.

You're much better off starting them off with Ghibli films (aka Japanese Disney) or shows like Summer Wars which are indeed aimed at "everyone". The closest J.C. Staff show I think that can be watched by "everyone" is Nodame Cantabile, but even then it won't be much appreciated by the older mainstream audience - too much "Japanese" slapstick comedy in my opinion.

@Wolfnagi - Whilst I think it is possible to make shows like Toradora into a Korean drama (with some alterations of course, particularly in the way characters act - less anime-ish), Korean dramas are still fairly unknown to the rest of the world other than in East and South East Asia in general. However, as you said, it is very popular in East Asia though. It's arguably more popular than anime in Asia as it is broadcasted on mainstream TV channels in countries such as the Phillipines, Thailand and China - Korean Fever. Compare this to anime, where it isn't mainstream, but is popular worldwide as a underground form of entertainment. I think the non-popularity of Korean dramas in the west comes back to cultural differences once again.

That certainly tempered my enthusiasm for the show in the first couple of episodes. Chiaki's throwing a score at Nodame's head in episode one created a lot of controversy in the forum here. Happily most of the slapstick disappears as the show progresses.

I found the slapstick scenes in the live-action version even more problematic. At one point Nodame runs toward Chiaki, and he pushes her head-first into a boulder. As in the anime, there was less of that as the story unfolded.

Flat Chest = Closer to the Heart

If you think about it, every other studio is all about the boobs (Except KyoAni, they own moeblob) but if you want flat-chest, there's only one studio that comes to mind heh...

This season of Index shows that JC Staff can do really awesome backgrounds when they want to But then again, I don't think even JC Staff could/would come up with a detailed and exact replicate of the constellations in the night sky That goes to KyoAni.

If they ever do collaborate with another studio, any studio, they should do a crossover series. JC Staff is just awesome with their parody humor I don't know whose idea it was, but the crossover advertisement between Index2 and OreImo was just brilliant.

For example... Let's say KyoAni with JC Staff... Now imagine a Hayate and Lucky Star crossover

Just like Chaos2Frozen said if they do that it will be the EPIC Anime of the whole time. Thinking of Nagi-sama meets Kona-chan and Taiga-san meets Kagami-chan and Shana meets Haruhi and Minorin meets Yui-chan

I hope they will make 'The Crossover of Haruhi Suzumiya' xDD

lol, Wall of text....
Anyway, onward to topic:
As for Toradora, I agree with you,
I watch a few Western drama and most of them aren't good for morales (for obvious reason). Due to that, Toradora IS NOT a good anime to be made into a Western shows. As stated by you, it is just simple, not good. Heck, I can't even imagine Toradora! with Gossip Girl style............

Aside from that, I think that the Western might be much more acceptance of Korean Drama instead of anime. Seriously, there are even parents that file a lawsuit just because their children read some manga (Is it Elfen Lied or anything else, I don't remember). Due to that, it is a much better choice for the show to expand in Korean form instead of anime simply because its much more popular than anime. Cultural differences might be a problem, but then again, how do we all know the Western culture without watching Western shows, right?

lol,
The fact that IF Shana, Taiga, Ojou-sama and Louise somehow meet each other can lead to many things (which is The Four Tsundere Wonder xD). So yeah, if the FTW met with Lucky Star (or the Haruhi cast), things might just gone beyond expectation xD
Konata vs Ojou-sama in terms of otaku (Ojou-sama have J.C knowledge while Konata have KyoAni). Taiga vs Kagami in tsundereness (..... I think Taiga have won this already...)
And yeah, J.C loves lolis especially Kugyu loli tsundere xD

Wow..The thread for Jc.staff fans.Count me in!
For me.When I heard that Jc.staff will be the one who adapt any of anime. It's safe to say that it will be at least "good" or "Want to check out as least 3eps".Whatever the kind of that anime was.(Like milky holmes and Maid-sama that although I dropped it but I stiil ever watch it like 3 eps).

Personally.I love to see their non-moe side more than their moe side.
I didn't enjoy the show like Index, Shana, Zero no tsukaima Hayate or railgun that much.
But The shows like Nodame, Honey and clover,Toradora is one of my all time favourite anime forever.
Include with Zakuro and Bakuman that were one of my favourite of 2010 too.And look like they start the 2011 year with Yumekui merry very well.

And some shows..Really.. You guys in this thread maybe don't know about some of the secret side of Jc.staff that...They adapt bishie-Shounen ai shows like Uragiri and Nabari no ou as well. and It's really in the superb quality(Both of animation and story) when you compare to the most of bishies show nowaday.
And some of rare shows like Shigofumi and Asatte no houkou still look good when they adapt it. Damn! What the impressive studio that it be.!

Another thing that impressed me the most are art and feeling. With their watercolor style(Their animation color style. you will be noticed if you try to compare them with the other studio). It make every shows of them look warming and have some sort of feeling that...I can't described but it makes their shows have "hearts". Although some shows like Bakuman wasn't used this style too much. But somehow it still has sort of this feeling send to me.
Like Feeling of this op.And Every OP of most of their shows
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7qMiQKqxz0
Maybe their production of character development is good too.I don't know.

Anyway. one of my favourite studio forever! Love them.

Well, their non-moe side is also entertaining as it has much more drama than I expected xD
For example, Shana at first may seem moe-ish but just like Toradora!, it also have a drama that worth the headache.
Well, simple to say, most of their shows are actually a moe drama.

As for UraBoku, I watch a few episode,
Unfortunately, dropped it due to yaoi -.-"

It has happened...sorta...

Dengeki Gakuen RPG Drama CD -Kizuna's Adventure-

In this drama CD, Shana actually meets Taiga. Might need to give it a listen again cos I can't exactly remember what happened other than Shana telling Taiga to go over to Ryuuji's house to retrieve her love letter that was meant for Kitamura.

Yes, I remember my cute cousin playing this in her NDS but I never try playing it. She said that in the story the player use the sixteen-year-old guy in the story.

And I can't stop insulting her (like 'you're going to play an EROGE again?' )

My Cousin Can't Be This Cute XD

Aside from that, that game also contain Index, Kino, Iriya, Haruka and a lots more which I can't remember (mostly because I haven't watch some of the shows....)
But mostly are Light Novel characters.

BOOM!... EPIC WIN!, in Yumekui Merry, Merry's VA is amateur but seems to be a veteran. and another thing about their 1st anime in 2011 (i'm pointing to Merry), they started with 12 episode run, and Aria the Scarlet Ammo will be the next one in line.

Why will they have to make a 12 episode anime series?

There aren't many sure-fire hits anymore. Titles like Toradora!, Toaru Majutsu no Index (and by extension, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun), and Shakugan no Shana were very popular before they were animated, so they all got big budgets and 24/25 episode runs.

However, most of the really popular sources have already been animated, so everyone's adapting relatively poor selling manga and light novels (with the slightest glimmer of potential). Sponsors don't want to risk as much money, although they tend to leave the endings open for sequels in case something turns out popular.
