I've been watching this movie in chunks. After two days, I've completed 41 minutes into it and the initial impression is how gorgeous the visual has been thus far into it. It's an orgy of detail and background imagery. I smiled so broadly when Michael and Klan-Klan came into the screen. I guess they have tweaked the known detail established in the TV series. I don't dislike it at all. Alto hasn't changed much though... for he still remains the ineffective bishounen who grasps the situation at a snail pace.

Noooo. Sheryl! I'm at 1 hr and change, and Sheryl dies just like that? Ach.. Is she just going to be the replacement of Michael in the movie? While I approve Osma's manly death which was coming to him when he decided to punch the useless hero, I, however, took it hard at Sheryl's abrupt demise.
Will be continued with heavy heart....

So going by the interviews and such relating to the second movie, can we confirm whether Hiroyuki Yoshino was still the main writer for the second film? I'm asking because ANN credits the screenplay to the director of the TV series and makes no mention of Yoshino in the its list of staff for the movie at all...

Then ANN is wrong. Yoshino should be credited alongside Kawamori for screenplay, for both films. And I don't really think it matters which of the two was the 'main' writer, to be honest. I do know, however, that Kawamori was the one responsible for the dialogue at the end of the film, the last dialogue involving Alto, Sheryl and Ranka.

Yoshino directed the second movie just like the first. But the script for the first movie was mostly written by Kawamori (ain't it obvious by the stick to the original story and then the back and forth of "new character, new scene" to "old character, old scene"). The second movie's script was mostly written (triangle wise) by Yoshino (which is obvious by the fall and the rise of 90% Sheryl in the movie, dominating everything). In the end, there is no proof Kawamori wrote the last dialogue. He never stated such, only that the ending was what he'd been after in the series, but that could be just the "ending" of the war. I'm sorry, but when Yoshino directs a Frontier feature, I don't take the final ending of the triangle seriously. He prefers Sheryl. This has been stated countless times. The fact of the matter is, when it is Yoshino who does the script writing for the feature as well, I don't raise my expectations very high. He's bad at storyboard and especially fair triangles. But Kawamori seems to like what he does, and so, even if he wanted a Ranka ending and got a Sheryl ending, he's not gonna fire him; understandable. However, as I understand it, Kawamori and Yoshino have had fights over this before: the ending Kawamori did not want (whether love triangle or physical). They had a time where they went on hiatus and fired Yoshino. So they have a rough relationship already. Yoshino better watch his back for the next production. Kawamori was not too happy with the series ending for Frontier. He also did not sound happy with Ranka leaving Frontier. I think he wanted a more DYRL story to the second half of the series the way he talked about it in the commentaries.
