Alright...so I feel like if you're going to be a musical, you have to commit to it more. Otherwise it's way too jarring and cheesy every time people break into song. I don't know if the style even really works with episodic anime anyway. But I'll give it points for originality.

Musical anime... to my memory, I don't think I've seen one in almost two decades worth of watching anime. On top of them hinting that the heroine knew someone from the past, that Rem guy seems to be reminded of certain things upon closer inspection, and me having a feeling that the brother isn't actually blood-related, this was the most pleasant surprise of the cour. Sure it has the feeling of an Otome game adaptation, but it not being one gives me hope that they'll actually have a decent ending this time around.

This turned out a lot better then expected and I'm liking the female lead.
Whether or not we get a canon pair, well this is still Rejet and I could see them eventually wanting to do a game tie in or at least some drama CD's if this ends up even remotely selling. I really did like that opening scene though feeling like some dark opera. Although because Funi is streaming this when that guy started talking in English I'd wondered if I'd actually started watching the dub by accident. :P

Episode 2
I like Azuna's design. She looks like she would do pretty good in a hentai lol'd when Rem started singing during the fight, this must be the closest thing to a male version of Symphogear dem lyrics though

Watched the first 2 episodes back to back. I know that the Japanese have a penchant for making stage musicals for all sorts of things. Did this anime come from one of those??
To be honest, I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed the episodes. I'm in so far.

Not that I could find. The anime appears to be the first property in this new "franchise". Well technically that's the manga, which was released a little bit before the anime, but as far as I could tell is based on the anime anyway. Then there's going to be a game next March.

Ep 02
Okay...this series is silly, but a good kind of silly. I also started giggling and facepalming when Rem started singing again. Well...not so bad on the whole, I guess. Will give it another ep.

Poor Azuna, Ritsuka keeps ditching her. At least this time she told her what she was doing...
Anyway, this episode was unfortunately pretty boring for most of the time. And there should've been at least one more song! One song per episode is not a musical, even StarMyu had two songs in its second episode. (And whoever writes the lyrics for these songs really needs to work on her writing skills, all lyrics so far were pretty horrible. ) I'm also disappointed that we got so little of the brother. He's featured prominently in the OP/ED as Rem's rival so I'm expecting a serious case of siscon... The student council members are a pretty standard fare, though Shiki was funny. I kept expecting the dog to bite Rose Guy's butt... |

DOGGY IS BEST BOY! I wonder if the dog changes into a bishie?
I have found my campy guilty pleasure this season. Now I gotta see what happens with the brother. Poor Azuna is gonna be like, 'BITCH I"M TIRED OF BEING DUMPED BECAUSE THE STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT WANTS TO GET INTO YOUR GRIMMOIRE" by the time this is over -As for the other harems: --I lol'd at the dog trying to bite big Steroid Demon guy. --Also, LOLLLL at Shiki acting all creepy --I kind of like Rose Petal Ouji-sama though. 'LOOK AT ME SIT LIKE THIS WITH A ROSE PETAL DON"T I LOOK COOL'

The action, it was masterful. I haven't seen such awful fighting choreography in a while, but it didn't even matter because everything was so gloriously campy that I had a smile in my face during the whole scene. And those lyrics... oh my god when Rem brought out the engrish, I totally lost it. The end of the dark-side game, pffthahahaha.
Seriously, this was an experience. I don't even think the whole series itself is bad, and at the very least the protagonist seems to be slightly more active than most otoge MCs, so that's already a plus. There seems to be an actual plot behind this whole thing, as well, so there's something to keep you intrigued while you just enjoy the over the top singing and what not. If I had to say, the Student Council kids aren't exactly 'good guys', as they made sure to at least hint with that scene in the first episode, but they're also not exactly the random 'devil worshippers' that seem to be targetting Ritsuka? I'd say they're also after the Grimoire, but god knows why, lol. The lyrics in Rem's song sure make it seem like he's already feeling quite possessive about his little Ritsuka there, which is, again, interesting. Anyhow, I'm in. Also love Elements Garden music so that's another reason for sticking around for a bunch more weeks. Let the dark-side of the game continue to be as entertaining as this was!

He does, it's shown in the opening. Apparently he's not part of the harem, though.

I totally did not expect Rem to break out into song during his fight. I was like and then . But despite the silliness, I still find this entertaining to watch. I'm surprised I'm following two musical anime this season (other being StarMyu). This is a first for me with musical anime.

well...
This succeeds in being a guilty pleasure this season for me I agree with everyone that the transition to the musical scenes could be done better. In fact, it would probably work better as a full length movie instead of a tv series... as the songs actually do sound pretty nice. That aside, I'm surprised to see how the animation can be so choppy since this is being handled by Brains Base. They did pretty well with Amnesia so what on earth happened here? |

I suppose they were trying to cover up the crappy fight scene with a crappy insert song. I kept bracing myself for the pres to start singing once the loud music came up, but I was still in disbelief. I bit my tongue laughing. (Okay, so I was, chewing and a pair of ants crawled out of the wall when the singing started, but let's pretend it was all this scene's fault.)
It was kind of a boring episode though. I did like the friend, though I have my suspicions that she's secretly the leader of the devil worshippers. I mean, do otome heroines ever have actual female friends? Quote:
Isn't the answer to that already spoiled in the OP? Spoiler for image:

Episode 3:
Well, this episode was far from normal with the masks, dancing, Grimore, etc. I think it's obvious that Ritsuka's bro is hiding something from her... Also weird ending. Got a bad feeling about what's to come soon. Urie's dancing style is also kinda unorthodox...
