That's kinda like me commenting on a Death Note thread about how Lucky Star is the greatest anime ever and Konata is just so cute and awesome.

Kinda exaggerating here, but my point is, if you are going to post something like this put it in a Death Note thread at least.

Do you normally compare things like black pepper and ice cream??? Or sponges and ashtrays? Not yelling - its just the post doesn't make a lot of sense, hopefully you'll find the Lucky*Star series amusing and even funny.

I know you probably don't realize this, but your post looks like spam, man.

Anyways, yes, be open to new things. But if you plan on watching it just so you can brag about how much better DN is in this thread, then no.

five years later

It's been almost five years now since the show came out. Would you say it still holds up much? For that matter, would you say it holds up as its own show or as sort of a "DVD extra" for Haruhi?

Speaking of which, I was recently looking back on the archives when Aya Hirano was still the toast of the town. Kinda sad to look back on that now with all her medical issues, scandals, and bridge-burning comments about otakus. She fortunately still seems to have plenty of opportunities on the variety and narration circuit, but her anime presence has been greatly reduced, so we probably won't see any further anime of this series. The infamous Kaioshin Sama was right in that overexposing Aya too fast would probably lead to future problems.

As for the rest of the cast, unfortunately I wouldn't say this show made big names out of them like with Haruhi or K-On.

Five years, eh? Damn, that's...depressing.

It didn't. The only one closest to some kind of "fame" is Emiri Katou (Kagami), who left a small wave of internet acknowledgment with her role of Kinoshita Hideyoshi, the "third gender" from Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu.

Returning to the first quote; when you consider shows like BtTtS or Working!! and their success followed by 2nd seasons, there's really no reason for Lucky Star to lack its own 2nd season or to be considered just a "DVD extra". It is still a very memorable show deserving of more attention. Attention, that's almost impossible to acquire due to how the anime ended, sadly enough.

Well, Emiri Kato also had Kyubey of course (much to her detriment), and Aya Endo had Sheryl Nome, but even then they aren't exactly in the seiyuu A-list. Kaori Fukuhara (Tsukasa) has had a few noteworthy roles like Astraea and Koromo, but her career hasn't been nearly as successful as people were speculating five years ago. And when's the last time you've heard of Shizuka Hasegawa (Yutaka)?

It makes me think that Kaioshin's theories were backward; Kadokawa arguably didn't think of it as a show for the ages like Haruhi and didn't push it nearly as hard as they did with their previous hit. Then again...no offense, but I wasn't completely impressed with the manga starting in about Vol. 7 (esp. when Yoshimizu retconned Patty's backstory).

Sad to see that the LS retired.

Since it's been indeed lacking discussions.

The only latest product is the Kona-Strike Witches.

At least Konata is still kicking off LS merchandise.

Indeed. Hopefully it gets some recognition as a classic anime in the future but for now it seems its times of popularity are over.

How much material is there anyway? I'm assuming it wasn't all animated in 2007.

It did strike me as a bit odd that they "buried the advertising spectrum with L*S", made Konata their default mascot ... and then everything just vanished.

I'm with andyjay729... I lost interest in the series at volume 7, it just seemed like the author lost what was special (and not just Patty's retcon but just the focus in general).

Its why I thought it was fascinating that the K-On! author is following his characters into university -- that's character-centric rather than setting-centric. Kind of miss Kagami.

Well LS may have lost it's magic touch.

But the legendary A-Girl is still the mascot of advertising anime stuff.

Konata imho is another timeless and one of the most memorable anime character

Hey, I just bought a recent Kagami figure, so it isn't like I've given up on the franchise.

Aye... really I do - the mannerisms and behavior similarities are almost eery. Haven't been able to convince her to dye her hair purple though

Tried using a wig?

Reminded me of Lucky Chuta the live action...you know what.

Anyways I'll just update this thread whenever there are new LS merchandise.

I brought the full series on DVD since it was DVD collection(only had the OVA previously) and Konata and Kagami Beach figures at some point last year and forgot to post about XD, so I haven't either. Though sadly not the pair of beach figures that together with the yuri hug .

I wonder what's going to come of this: Lucky Star's 10th Anniversary Marked With Hint of More

Quote:
The January issue of Kadokawa Group Publishing's COMPTIQ magazine is marking the upcoming 10th anniversary of Kagami Yoshimizu's Lucky Star manga with the Lucky Star History Book 2003-2012 supplement and a poster on Monday. The booklet includes a new Lucky Star "Nandemo Shitteiru" short story by Yoshimizu and a teaser for something new in the works in 2013. According to the teaser, fans should check the wooden ema prayer plaques that are hung in offering at Washinomiya Shrine, the Tokyo area's oldest shrine and a real-life backdrop for the Lucky Star anime series.
