Thief 4

Ohhhh my lord where has this game been. Too long!
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/03/05/th...-the-darkness/

So excited!

Quote:
“Series hero Garrett returns to the Gothic, industrial metropolis known simply as the City to steal any and everything that will make him richer. Unfortunately, the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague and lorded over by a political tyrant known as the Baron. In order to survive his adventures, Garrett will have to pay attention to his environment and make use of the may possible paths through each of the game’s levels.”

Also Thief was the originator for stealth games imo.

I just hope it's not a reboot.
I always wanted to know what would happen to the girl Gerret picked up at the end of the Thief 3 (with the exact same words he was told, when he got picked up by the Keeper he was trying to steal from when he was a street kid )

With a reboot they could simply forget about her and make thier own thing.

But it seems he has his metal eye... so I'm hopeful!

Maybe the girl willing pinning to be Mrs. Garret

Crap, why did this game have to have a plague too? Now ton of noobs will come and say Thief is stealing from Dishonored. Nevermind Dishonor even had a cameo scene from Thief I

Yeah, I feared as much...

Got my hopes up from the sentence:

But I guess i took the "returns" part to literally.

Well, as a fan of the Thief series I'm delighted of course... so please don't mess it up. >_<

EDIT: On the other hand, a reboot dosen't necessarily mean that the previous story get's scraped... see Deus Ex for example. DE:HR was also labeled a reboot.

Just ignore it Not a big deal. Even though it is a reboot hopefully the story will remain somewhat to the cannon in 1/2.

Regardless, the Thief series was and is still epic and I see no reason why #4 wouldn't live up to the same, if not higher expectations.

I am the shadows, the dark and deadly, the velvet night.
You will not see me coming. I am Garrett….What's yours is mine.
Well, it has been officially announced now.

I might have to keep my eye on this. I got Thief: Deadly Shadows, I think, with my GeForce 3 cards many moons ago. It was a pretty good game. I didn't go back and play the previous games, but I'd do a new game.

You should defiently play the 2 before if you can find them or get them to work. If you do they are awesome, dated yes, but gameplay is sweet and story is gripping Also kind of creepy.

Agreed, the first two games are great.
And for finding and making them run: If you use Steam, they are available there and most Steam games work on modern systems... and if you don't like Steam, they are also found on gog and the like.

I'd easily pay double full money for Thief 4 if it only used exactly the same engine as 1/2 and had the same kind of storytelling. Preferably even the same VAs.

So yea, definitely play 1/2 before moving on. 3 wasn't completely bad, but not in the same league as 1/2.

I would like to have a newer engine, but I am with you for the storytelling. VA maybe, I think that is do able. The cut scenes were awesome. 3 is good, just the lack of a sword and the 3rd person buggyness is what lets it down.

Just don't turn this into another Assassin Creed / Dishonored. We already have those games, we don't need another.

The game director tries to clearify thw whole "mainstream" thing.

Quote:
"Hey guys, I think I might not have illustrated some of my points clearly on the video. It’s not correct to say that we’re trying to make Thief ‘mainstream’, or that we’re trying to make Garrett ‘less gothic’... This isn’t the case.

I was referring specifically to a previous Garrett design we tried out internally and not Garrett from the previous games. Our early design went a LOT more gothic – with black nails etc - but we thought that this wasn’t true to the legacy of Garrett so we pulled it back a bit. Returning to something more true to the original Garrett is what I meant when I said we made him more ‘mainstream’, this wasn’t a comment about the direction of the game.

I can assure you we’re huge fans of the original games and we’ve done our homework to create a game that maintains the essence of the original. I can’t wait to show you more of the game and Garrett soon!”
http://community.eidosmontreal.com/blogs/Going-Rogue

Well, I'm pretty much in wait-and-see mode now. They can make a good game out of it that keeps somewhat true to the original, or they can totally botch it.
