Mari-Mite had one confirmed lesbian couple.

And this is me filtering out pure teases, even strong ones.

But I do agree that confirmed gay characters are often hard to find in anime.
I apologize, as priginally I had said "homosexual" characters. What I meant was male homosexual characters. I'm aware of plenty of lesbians. Need we reminisce on table-kun from Code Geass?

Male homosexuals in anime are usually drag queens played for comedy. Easily identified by their trademark accessory, the pink feather boa.
Those are surprisingly frequent too. In every odd show or so, there is one in the cast for no apparent reason.

Yup... That's what I'm saying... Current yuri anime are male oriented.. where in the world could you see two cute girls falling in love at first sight, shares the same interest in underwear, dessert etc... and their parents don't give a damn about it.. more over hen they are enrolled in a pure lesbian school..... I said it before, its more of an insult to homosexuals than actually side with them...

That anime "disturbed" me for a week or two. I watched an fan made AMV.. and I threw up.... unrealistic plot, with unrealistic setting, with unrealistic pairing, in a unrealistic school with unrealistic school staffs.... and forced coupling...

Maria-sama Miteru on the other is more of shouji-ai.... but still I don't care to watch it... knowing it is set in a Catholic school.. of all....

I don't know. That one dude in Tiger and Bunny shoots fire and owns his own company

Actually you just reminded me of Bob (I think that was his name?) from Fairy Tail.

Who is a drag queen.

But he also happens to be an eccentric old man who has his own guild and is actually a pretty cool dude. Incidentally he reminds me of someone I actually know in real life.

Uh...no.

Maybe they do in other series, not the ones I've seen recently: Besides the Fire Guy in Tiger and Bunny, the only one I know of that dresses like that was that one guy in Gurren Lagann

Otherwise,

Genpachi in Hakkenden doesn't wear a boa...and he's at least Bi.

The florist in Tamako Market is just a regular bishie guy....with the voice of Daisuke Ono

Yuri is pure fantasy to satisfy men's gratification in seeing two girls flirting and eating with each other *drool yeah, thanks... anyway...

Why they are not called lesbians though they're doing it? It's called denial. Same as porn stars denying they're gay or bi...

Oh, another thing that applies to yaoi as well... as if they're not catered to women...
Super late reply, but whatever. Actually most of the yuri artists (in manga at list) seems to be girls now days.

Yes it is a trope in nearly in all of shounen and I really don't get how a character with these type of cliches is considered "cool".

The only shonen character that doesn't annoy the piss out of me is Luffy.

Ichigo sucks because Kubo basically shat on everyone else.

Naruto is just.....Naruto's like a hyperactive kid that I want to give ritalin too. Though Sasuke makes me want to vomit.

I think I posted a long rant on this subject.

Tite Kubo does not know how to write a story, or really much in the way of background stories for characters. Bleach is so poorly written, and had so much potential that was wasted on making Ichigo a mostly independent character.

However, Naruto I respect more because at the very least there were some extremely interesting side characters. Hinata's writing and contributions to the series actually made having watched nearly every episode of Naruto (not Shippudden) worth it. This applies to many of the other characters as well.

In both cases though, the main characters and main plot were pretty sub-par. These aren't the only examples of this either. I've seen a large quantity of not just anime, but writing in every medium that does a much better job with the side characters than the primary characters. I think part of the issue is that some writers forget that just because it's the main character's story, it doesn't mean that we know everything about them or have knowledge of all their experiences. There's still room for exposition in terms of their events prior to the story starting, their personal feelings, or even off-screen events they were involved in. Just because we're watching this person, doesn't mean we automatically identify and sympathize with them. You have to MAKE US like them. This is done by breathing some actual life into the character, preferably staggered throughout the course of the story.

What do i hate about anime?

A pervert male protagonist who thinks nothing but woman breasts all the time and have no shame to admit his perversion yet when critical moment occurs he ALWAYS chicken out (or, in some cases, his sanity suddenly comes back and forces him to refrain his action)

damn stupid . . . . .
