Well, changing the topic a little, Yukine's route so far is... above average (Yes, I am picky and all that stuff~).
She reminds me of Kanon's Sayuri so much, and that got her lots of extra points~

Kappei's route is fantastic. That's all I can say. Fantastic.

o_O Yukine's route is kinda weird in a sense but the interaction becomes hillarious at times. Kappei's route is kinda long(ending) but overall it bested all the routes i played except Tomoyo's route which i personally think it's the best...for now ^^

Eh? Kappei's route is great for laughs, but its plot/drama wasn't really my cup of tea. Still would love to see it animated though, if only for all the hilarious moments. As for Yukine's... it's really something else, in a good way .

Kappei's route was very good in its own way and has its sad moments, but I didn't cry as much as some of the other routes.

I just installed the CLANNAD game for the PC and everytime i click the Change name or New Game options on the menu in the beginning, my game freezes. Can anyone tell me why this happens and what files should be installed in the Key folder so that the game runs smoothly?

East Asian Languages not yet installed, maybe?

To do this with XP, (Vista was easier, I think)

Control Panel>Regional and Language Settings>

Choose the Languages tab and check the "Install...(blablabla)files", If you are not sure which one check them both.

Choose the Advanced tab and Under the 'Language for non-unicode programs'
Switch to 'Japanese' and check the Japanese(s) for 'code page conversion tables'

Apply.

I am not sure if all the steps were necessary, but that's what I do anyway.

sorry, it still freezes up for me. can you give me a screenshot of how your Key folder looks like? I might be missing a file or something because all it does is freeze up.

Clannad is about a few billion times better when trying to be funny than when trying to be touching and dramatic.

It's still awesome when trying to be touching and dramatic, but...

I'd like to point out Nagisa's route, where everything was going so well and then that Deus Ex Machina of an illness setting in only to give the route a bittersweet ending.

I'll probably understand when I play After Story, but that ending felt really forced... Nagisa's cuteness really made it enjoyable for me, so I can't complain too much, but...

And drama, due to the twist in audience expectation and perception, has become something almost unwanted and undesirable in written work today, I've noticed.

Under the Regional options tab, swap the Standard and Location to japanese.

I don't think you are missing any file, since my friend's notebook is experiencing exatcly the same problem. And it was solved this way.
No idea if this still won't work.

Well since you haven't played after story or Ushoi as above said that explains a bit.

I can't see how playing through a continuation of a plot will make me retroactively enjoy said plot, but whatever.

Because you are perhaps considering the school lives as "main plot" of Clannad, while it isn't?
Substancial wise, AS might be shorter than all school lives combined, but it is arguably the principal plot (as suggested by the Illusionary World) and the base of the school lives to start from.

It certainly won't allow you to retroactively enjoy it, but I think Nagisa's route in Clannad TV will look and feel better after After Story shows.

I actually think one of the main reasons I didn't like Nagisa's route is because I knew everything that was going to happen, having watched the anime first...

I'm playing Kotomi's route now and am having the same problem...

Oh well, when I play the full version of Nagisa's route without scene skip, maybe I'll enjoy it this time.

I watched the anime first for Kotomi's route and it didn't stop me from enjoying her story (I felt the anime was really rushed, rewatching a few scenes after playing).

Nagisa's route, however, is a bit boring... But I consider the school life the prologue to the after story, and the after story is simply great.

I enjoyed Kotomi's route too, despite it being spoiled for me c/o the anime. There were a few minor details skipped/altered (like when Tomoya [with Kyou] first met Kotomi's guardian), and more lines form The Dandelion Girl are always welcome.

Spoiler for Kotomi ending:

The way they acted one scene out near the end was touching, so to speak.

Plus, more Kyou is always fine.

Ditto on Nagisa's route, however. The only above average part was Akio's speech, which got dramatically enhanced in the anime. Her route only starts to shine during After Story IMO. That's not saying I didn't enjoy the basketball game though (yes, all versions of them -- including the losses).
