Candy Candy has been very popular in America since 80's. I have to admit that when I watched it I had no idea about anime. I thought it was an animated soap opera . In fact, it is... |

Mines was Sailor Moon too.
I remember surfing through the channels after school, and spotted a bright pink-haired girl (Rini I think ) and thought she looked cool so I stayed and watched the rest. Then everything else took off until I wasn't able to watch it anymore. A couple years later I discovered Pokemon and anime was there to stay for me :] |

First Anime w/o being a fan: SDF Macross (Robotech)
Anime because everyone else is watching: Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Naruto (Bleach I stopped very quickly) Anime that got me into anime: Full Metal Alchemist I proceeded to watch a lot of shonens after FMA only to realise, FMA was the pinnacle of shonens... bad mistake to watch it first. Never found a shonen better than it even now. Now I mainly watch slice of life and supernaturals. |

Ah yeah I got really into Slayers in around 6th grade. They'd play it along with Dragonball Z (in Japanese with english subtitles) on Sunday nights on the international channel. I also watched the Slayer's movie around that time. That was when I was really getting into anime. That was in 2001... back then though, the internet wasn't very friendly to me and I had a crappy computer... so I wasn't really able to get into anything unless if I watched it on T.V. or rented it. I think I also watched Tokyo Vice around that time which seems to be an obscure movie that very few people have seen, but I thought it was a cool film.

Mach Go Go Go. When I was watching it, it was being aired on some crappy local antenna channel at 2 in the morning, presumably because 'them thar Japanotoons are only popular with weirdos' or some such rot. Still a toddler yet, I taught myself to sleep from 8 P.M. to 1 A.M., then I'd wake up, sneak across the room I shared with my brother and sister, take our 11" TV into the closet and watch the three hour anime block--which included Mighty Atom and Tetsujin 28-go, so it was clearly 'old people cartoons', despite my liking it-- then I'd go back to sleep. But of these, the first one I happened to see and get hooked on was Mach Go Go Go.
