Aldnoah.Zero - generic discussion thread

A great introduction episode. Even though Gen Urobuchi is only writing the first three episodes (for now) it does have his ideas in it. Granted a lot of exposition in the first episode but it is very interesting. Having two sides (the Earth citizens and 'Martians') and both have their shades of light and dark in their society. Guaranteed the Princess is not dead, she's one of the main character and we've only seen so little of her (granted they can use flashback but still way too early). Inaho (voiced by the ever so lovely Natsuki Hanae) is a very unique character given his very calmly a bit too calmly (will be interesting here why later on). Also Sora Amamiya as Princess was excellent reminding me of Kaori in One Week Friends. Music was spot on brilliant and yes may be the same Sawano Hiroyuki but you know what that man knows how to do epic music. I'm hoping for a two cour (whether it's split or not) to have a much more fleshed out story exploring both sides of this war with the good and bad. I'm just hopeful Takayama Katsuhiko will able handle the writing duties as well after the third episodes but given the fact that both him and Gen discussed early in development where this story goes I'm more hopeful. So hopefully this will be just as good as I hope it will be or better.

That shooting star scene is just brilliant. Highly ironic and not overly melodramatic like many has suggested here.

Hmm... How do I say this... The setting and everything just feels like it has been done before. I mean, if they have some girl prepare a badly animated cabbage or something, I might find it funny. But as of now, all of this nuking the Earth and "we are better"-thing and all of that isn't really impressive to me.

That said, I like the character designs.

It was revealed that Earth Federation's military actually took bribes from civilian manufacturing companies. The scandals dealt a blow to the Earth Federation's position.

1996
Atlanta, São Paulo and Bombay were bombed in large scale terrorist attacks. 3267 deaths. Mars organization took credit for the attacks. Anti Mars rose among earthlings.

1997
Ray Regalia retired due to illness. His son Gillsaia ascended to the throne.

1999
VERS Empire declared war on Earth and used their military robot Cataphract to attack Earth Federation's bases on Moon. In the fierce battle, the Hyper Gate lost control and the Moon was heavily damaged. The disaster was named "Heaven's Fall". Debris from the moon formed the satellite belt. Gillsaia, who was fighting on front line was KIA. The two force decided to cease fire. Ray Regalia returned to the throne and Gillsaia's first daughter, Princess Asseylum was born.

2000
Earth Federation and VERS signed the peace treaty. The military forces were called back and a neutral zone was set up.

2002
VERS mass produced their space ships and a route between Mars and Moon was set up. Most of the Mars Knights resisted the call back orders and stayed within the moon area. The peace treaty was actually ignored on Mars' sides.

2003
Due to Heaven's Falls, the political situations on Earth were unstable and there were multiple large scale riots. To suppress the riots, Earth Federation used the Earth made Cataphracts, which were developed after the war, for the very first time.

2007
After Earth Federation ended the riots, the situation stabilized.

2010
In the 10th anniversary of the war end, nations held celebrations and peace meetings. Two side were walking towards peace.

2014
Earth Federation continues to promote good relationships with VERS and the peace talks are still ongoing.

I agree with the above that big pieces of a meteor or in this case, chunks of the moon making holes out of continents would have created an extinction event on earth. Guess we'll see what happened there.

We don't know how violently the moon broke up; it is possible for that to not cause an extinction event if it was just very large pieces with little energy denting the earth.

Dinosaurs got hit by a bullet, this could very have been a very slow moving truck for all we know.

That said, the "earthlings survived it" is more or less just fiction convenience since unless somehow those pieces only landed on the earth masses and the crust just caved in and absorbed all the impact, any one of them landing in the ocean would literally "wash humanity off the face of the earth."

Very nice first episode, really liked it. It avoids most of the consistently used clinches that come with mecha anime, and there's no obvious logic plot holes. While some things are more or less predictable, its still well done regardless, and this episode sets things up nicely for what can come next.

Pretty good first episode. One of the better premieres I've seen so far this Summer, actually.

The show might not be very original, but it has a good sense of style, dramatic timing, and gravitas. It looks promising so far.

So...a random mad scientist declares himself the head of a new cult and then proceeds to declare war on earth...sweet.

One thing that always amazes me is how exactly can a small group of settlers(in this case around 350k) rebel against the world and how they are able to arm themselves to such a level that they can defeat the garrison stationed to prevent such a situation from occurring in the first place, as well as successfully holding back a massive counterattack from Earth.

So...the Martian society is an absolute monarchy or an oligarchy at best that's run by a group of parvenu,zealot aristocrats who thinks they are better than anyone who isn't amongst them, even though they became aristocrats in little more than a single generation and that they are appointed by a group of self-proclaimed royals.Sweet.

7 pages already? I'm not reading all that . I figured it would be the most popular show of the season, but this is exceeding my expectations.

The first episode was pretty engaging. It did a good job setting up the premise. There is not much I can say about the plot so far. The setting is pretty typical, I'm currently watching Gundam Age and it uses pretty much the exact same premise (Former Earthlings that settled on Mars coming back to conquer Earth). What intrigued me the most was the ruins of that ancient civilization. I'm sure it will be highly relevant and I wonder what they're going to do with that.

Although I'm not completely sold on the story yet, everything else was stellar. I was blown away by the art, the animation, and the music. You can tell this is an ambitious project. Another thing I liked is who I assume is the main character is very calm and collected, as opposed to most MCs in mecha anime that are usually too emotional. Of course, an emotionally dead character is no fun (hello, Mahouka), so I hope he does have some semblance of emotions. Just not too much. I just want him to be the rational type.

Most promising anime of the season so far. I'm fairly confident this will be great. With a staff like that, it's hard to imagine this will fail.
