Well, there is a problem you see, aside from personal preferences, Klan is simply too short and small to control a VF properly inside a cockpit.

My questions off topic from the discussion going on but...

If I've never seen a Macross series before, would I be able to understand/enjoy Macross Frontier? or should I watch all the older Macross series (including OAVs/Movies) before starting on Frontier?

Most of the background context needed to understand the story is given in the opening narration in the early episodes. However, part of the fun of this series is spotting the many subtle homages and references to the earlier shows.

The shows in chronological order and how they relate to Frontier.
Macross Zero (prequel, possibly the most directly connected with Frontier for certain reasons)
SDF Macross / DYRL movie (the bulk of the backstory for explaining why things are the way they are)
Macross Plus (not really related, several technologies in use are first introduced here)
Macross 7 (Premise is the same as Frontier, set in another clamshell colonization fleet in unexplored space. Otherwise also not really related)

I watched the first series under title of Robotech as well, and I still enjoyed the current series very much.

If it wasnt for the awesome Blassreiter, this series probably won the story/character development award this season.

IMHO.

Could it be that Klan flies her combat armor around because she is more proficient in it since she trained in that before coming to work for SMS? Biler (the Zentradi backer) put together a group of people to form SMS. Doesn't mean they all came from humans. Actually it makes sense that Klan and her squadron worked for Biler before and still do.

No. And only a handful are recurring characters in more than one series.

Max, Millia and Exedore (SDFM, Macross 7)

For example did you know Lynn Kaifun, Minmay's ex-boyfriend, cousin and manager, ended up in Macross 11 and became the manager of Fire Bomber American?

Also in Macross Classic drama depicting the the missing 2 years in SDFM Flower Girl shows up as Minmay's fangirl bumping into Hikaru. She missed giving Minmay her flowers due to the concert getting cancelled because of Zentradi fanboys. The same seiyuu as the Flower Girl in Macross 7.

Which brings to question who the heck Flower Girl in Macross 7 is. Since Macross Classic occurs in 2010 while M7 occurs 2045-46.

Possibilities

1. She is a Meltran in a loli body. Not as loli as Klan.

2. The Minmay fan was her mom.

3. Flower girl is a clone of Minmay's Flower Girl. Meaning she was born before UNG stop cloning in 2030.

Oh yes Flower Girl was last seen in a Sheryl concert in 2059.

Also, Ranka had her own flower girl when she visited a devastated island after the Vajra attack from Gallia 4. This one succeeded in giving the flowers though.

How about recurring characters including the games? Quamzin is one.

The is most disturbing part of SDF for me......I guess its ok to screw your first cousin in the Macross universe

It's a common enough cliche in Japanese works in general. Apparently kissing cousins is not considered as taboo as in the west by their culture.
