Interesting idea but it would end up being so wildly different from the source that you'd be best up writing an original concept with a few inspirations.
I think a Britiosh version would be good, i actually live in a english version of hinamizawa excluding the whole crazy deaths and such but the layout is pretty similar and we even have the 2 ruling families. Basically i think an english version would be entirely possible given the right oppotunity so long as oyashiro sama isn't a saint of some sort

onikakushi can turn out to be a really good sort of suspense/horror movie
watanagashi / the answer to it , can be made into horror/gore movie. the twins thing with that swap reminds of a Thai ghost movie called alone.
tatarigoroshi = er... a drama movie ? :P
meakashi - action/drama ? lol
minagoroshi/matsuribayarashi - fantasy/sci-fi/action/drama

This is a bit off topic, but I though people might be slightly interested in it. In Comiket 73, a group of fans released their own live action version of Higurashi, titled 'Sono Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni'. You can view the trailer for it here. I especially liked the casting choices for Takano and Hanyuu.

PS: They also have a website for those that want to see more.

It's rather educational. Before seeing Takano's actor I hadn't realized that Asians could be this hirsute.

My curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded it. It's an hour-long parody of Onikakushi-hen. I'm rather impressed by the fact that they seem to have gone to the trouble of filming it in Shirakawa.

Here's the main cast:

Keiichi hearing footsteps behind him for some reason...

Satoko and Okonogi just before Rika uses her jaws to tear their throats out:

Now my curiosity is killing me....

The only problem is waste many download hours to get a 3.5GB ISO for something I know it will be terribly bad

I'd say it depends on whether there other things that you'd rather download instead. This video probably isn't something that you'd want to watch repeatedly after all.

PS: Is it just me, or does Hanyuu's actor resemble Brezhnev?
