I wonder if it is hard to extract the ashes from it. Doesn't seem to be build with practicality in mind. Then again... art generally is not primarily about being practical.

Doesnt look like it. Gas burns differently (smaller flames, slightly blueish) and electric would look simply artificial, its neither.

Carbon loaded fuel produces orange flames even in gaseous state. Remember how the bunsen burner works?
