Izumi currently has extreme proficciency in Jeet Kun Do, Akido, and Jujitsu... Her mechanical skills are well advanced enough that she can predict performances of equipment on sight almost as well as test equipment, making her a good aid to the mechanics, and an astounding vehicle pilot. Though young, she is already an aircraft pilot, and considerably skilled, able to tangle with the likes of the BEST Force's localized vehicle squadrons, Mouse and Yellow. Her proficiency quickly earned her the callsign FOX, after the crafty way in which she used her understanding and translated it directly to combat areodynamics.
Magical Review found that asside from Fox's borderline paranormal understanding of the mechanical, she barely even registers any magical abilities at all.
Noted on the side, it seems that Izumi has a startling ressemblence to a fictional character named Asuka Langley Sorhyu, in both looks, and spunky personality. She has often heralded the nickname 'Second Child', which strikingly fits her position of Unit 02 of the ATS. She also sometimes takes on a momentary attitude of supreme superiority that mirrors her fictional counterpart that Crash has nicknamed the 'Langley Effect'
Izumi has been selectively ranked outside of standard procedure to fill the second-in-command slot under Crash for the roster in the ATS unit by Maj. Gen. Roland. She holds the Officer rank of Captain.

ABILITIES:

Mechanical. If it has moving parts, she can figure it out, in minutes. Often times she can after only doing it once, dissassemble and reassemble mechanical devices faster than those who've worked on them for years.

Martial. While not master rank, she is a black-belt in three hand to hand arts and in the process of learning fencing. She can, and has completely floored Crash for particular insults in single deft moves.

Piloting. She's very good, able to make outdated vehicles perform right up to their envolopes and beyond in ways most pilots are afraid to even attempt. While thinking about aspects of Crash's dogfight, I know he's at one point, going to come into melee combat on the ground with Fate. In which, I have him flashback to some lessons Fox has given him on close combat attributes, on the advantages of parrying, or force redirection.

Thinking about it, I can't recall a single Nanoha fight where the melee combat actually shows any counter moves, parries, force redirects, thowing, or using opponent's momentum against them.

Fate is supposed to be very good Melee fighter, but just how good do we want to put her in pure martial skill when we never see a good example of a force redirection move? There's a huge number of massive openings to be made when an opponent commits to a high force move. Such as Vita's overhead with a hammer blow... Shove it off to the side as it comes down and lay a knee (Or blade, or spell) into her stomach.
All blows I can recall are direct blocks, or full dodges. Both are physically intensive, and often wasteful.

IMO A classic case of "Did Not Do The Research" for melee combat (hell, I'm guilty of that as well). If they say Fate's an expert melee fighter, than by god, make her one. Make her fighting style extremely complex.
