My favorite character of all-time has to be Maes Hughes. Not only is there nothing in his personaily that's not to like, he can go from silly and raving about his family to serious in s split second. Now that's good acting.

Tenchi Muyo - Tenchi series (First dude I saw to be around bunch of girls with awesome sword skills)
Cowboy Bebop - Spike (Reminds me of Bruce Lee. I like to quote some of the stuff he says, and I like his story)
Gundam Wing - Heero (First dude I saw to be hella changed by a girl)
FMP - Sagara Sosuke (So cool with all his skills in battle)

My Goddess Series - Belldandy (First girl I saw that I wanted to keep watching because of the relationship with Keiichi)
Claymore - Claire (Sword skills and the ability to keep on going, basically a good heroine in my books)

Actually my favorites are all villains, simply because I like the "mastermind" kind of characters, cold, controlled, and sly, and usually they are all on the dark side (with probably the notable exception of Gendo Ilkari). So, mine are:

Ed Elric (FMA): He's been my favorite anime character since I first saw the series back in late 2004. Too bad after watching Code Geass, I can't decide whether I like him more or the same as...

Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass): What can I say. Simply brilliant, tragic, and awesome. He's an anti-hero and machiavellian, but not so much to the point of being another Light. A protagonist who knows what he's doing and learns from his mistakes.

Ryugu Rena (Higurashi): I find female characters that are mentally unstable or have personality disorders very interesting characters. She's "moe", but does not waste ink, paper, or space since she actually develops.

Tamaki Suou (Ouran): I usually hate stupid characters, but he's one of the few exceptions. All I have to say: What a man.

Osaka (Azumanga Daioh): How can you not like her?

Hei (Darker than Black): He's cool... especially his bi-personality shifts.

That's basically my top 5/6 favorite characters.
