Was gonna get this but I hate how they ruined perfect story opportunity by making Lu Lingqi and Diao Chan have zero interaction in the story mode. Don't think they acknowledge the other's existence anywhere.
So... Gonna just wait for Dynasty Warriors 9 for PS4 down the road. |

man...i just bought my ps4 version sometime ago. if i knew they release the PC version to the
west this soon, i'd have waited for it. stupid ps4 version having lagginess when there's a fire or poison going on screen and then there's the fogginess depth of field. (koei will fix them soon...hopefully) -_- i hope the pc version have better graphic and frame rate than the ps4. i might be interested in picking it up during steam sales. (not dropping another $60, if that's their price, for the pc version)

After playing a lot of Dynasty Warriors 7, my only entry in the series, I wrote off this game as my mindset was 'if I've played one game in the series, I've played them all.'
After playing Dynasty Warriors 8, my thinking changed to 'well, this is another series that isn't as soulless as Call of Duty.' What drew me to this entry was the selling point of 77 unique movesets; getting the Master of Chaos achievement has done nothing to abate how there are still characters I haven't played yet because the prospect of learning each of them is that daunting. From what I've played though, no moveset and movement is alike. Guo Jia can get serious airtime while he demonstrates his billiard skills, Liu Bei dominates the space around him by spinning like a lunatic, Lu Xun divides and conquers with Shadow Clones, and Xiahou Ba can double the speed of his rocket launcher as it periodically crashes with death from above. All of these and more serve to make for the most historically accurate portrayal of fighting in ancient China I've ever seen. Another welcome addition is the Rock Paper Scissors-like weapon system that ensures you pay attention to your surroundings. Every character can equip two weapons of any affinity (Heaven>Earth>Man>Heaven), and can switch weapons at a moment's notice as the situation demands. However, don't think this means you can just switch weapons to gain the advantage or 'tie' with opponents. It's not uncommon for situations to arise where you're faced with multiple mooks that cover each other's affinity weaknesses. You also, thankfully, cannot change what two weapons you have equipped mid-battle. It's a simple mechanic that adds a lot of depth. Aesthetically, the environments are gorgeous for its genre and no two maps feel or look alike. The Wuzhang Plains return with a sense of mysticism as the map sprawls across the battlefield, Chibi's interconnected ships and sparse landfall shine a sense of scale while also being claustrophobic, and New Hefei Castle is a true fortress in every sense of the word. The music is also absolutely bitching with its selection, bringing ancient China to our ears as it was meant to be, with a mixture of oriental and hard rock music; Confucius would be proud. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try out Sima Yi and his gravity-manipulating powers. I wonder how he used this back in ancient China...
