Maybe some backstory will do. Like: Chifuyu, during her time in Germany, met Oren at some joint military exercise.

Short answer, yes, my Idols do it all the time.

Long answer:

In a pinch, the original Vandam could be launched in a cruise missile package by exchanging the warhead with the unit (albeit squashed like a sardine).

Subsequently, dedicated suborbital launch vehicles (SOLVs) were developed to extend the reach of the Vandam I. That legacy remains on the Copernicus which can launch up to 4 units directly from mass launchers and fire 4 more via SOLVs from the LOBM tubes.

Presently, SOLVs have been dedicated to be used as launch vehicles for the cylindrical STR@TOBiKEs. A more spacious option also exist for SOLVs, but pilots and their STR@TOBiKEs can still pack themselves into the same tube if there's a need for it.

The original plan: A crazy dimension-hopping madman in a box gathers characters from different universes (Touma from Index, Shiro from Fate, Araragi from Bakemonogatari, Kirito from SAO). The plan was to recruit Ichika from IS for the dream team...But because Dan selfishly filches the "invitation" (thinking it's an invitation to IS Academy), they snatch HIM instead.

Since this is the 'real' world, Shirou will have to 'make' the swords for Kirito. And Touma's power is instrumental in undoing some of the Slaverlords. But actually fighting the Queen and the actual Big bad was supposed to be Ichika's role, so...Yeah, Dan. You F---ed it all up.
