I must be one of the few who didn't really care for the last season. Baccano was more interesting.

It's fucking ludacris how long this took considering how well the DVDs sold.

As I said in the OP I would have preferred more Baccano myself - I think it's the better show in every way. But the first cour especially of DRRR was vastly entertaining, and I think this is a series than can honestly be said to have been very influential. It's arguably started a sub-genre, and at the very least it's inspired a lot of imitators.

Definitely, Baccano would have been wonderful but Durarara is aright too.

Surprised it took so long, I guess it was a matter of timing... since this is the LN 10th anniversary and they are kinda transitioning the series into the next phase with it being called Durarara!! SH and having a 2 year time skip. But it's not like a second anime season would even get upto the end of the first arc (since the first season only covered the first 3 novels) and the LN sales dropped off a cliff a year after the anime.... (though still much higher than pre anime). I doubt we'll ever see Durarara!! SH animated.... would need a 4th or 5th season for that...

It's not like Aniplex haven't changed studio before and retained key/core staff members for a sequel, see OreImo which went from AIC to A-1.

But yeah the days of Omori being exclusive to Brains Base are truly over.

Yep, this should be the 3rd season if anything lol. If the sales crater than they messed up bad...

I think most here would agree about Baccano... but DRR sold considerably more anime dvds and light novels than Baccano ever did, so it was always going to get a sequel ahead of Baccano.

Wow, March just seems to be a month of super exciting news. Very pleased by this. I look forward to re-watching Durarara!! in order to brush up (something I typically NEVER do, which is saying a lot).

More Celty and Shizuo, that's all I need. Anything else is just gravy.

It's a new studio headed by the production producer (Yumi Satou?) of the previous series.

This appears to be a breakaway studio from Brains Base - every name I've seen connected to it comes from there. Could indeed be bad news for Brains Base's future.

I wonder why they do that? Did the talent all decided to walk off and form their own studio? It just seems strange to form a new studio when the leaders of production are the same people as the original show. This happens all the time, but the "why" just seems unclear.

For people complaining it's Drrr! sequel and not Baccano. Just look at the sales:

Baccano! - about 3300 DVD avarage + 2513 BD-box sales.
Durarara! - about 20000 DVD avarage + 5645 BD-box sales.

Producers choose from the profit POW. LNs sales bump was similar if I remember right. I like both equally so either bis good.

Aniplex could probably contact any of the announced names on their own, so Shuka remains a mystery.

At any rate, it's mainly about money. You won't get rich as an employed producer (at this point, it's about building a loyal network of connections, as well as a track record of hit series. When opportunity knocks, you start your own company with the help of the same clients and animation talent), but things are different once you're the studio owner/president. Pay day has arrived!

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

I too would rather see more Bacanno, I thought that was the more interesting of the two shows, but Durarara was also rather enjoyable.

The Baccano light novels got a little bump, Durarara! otoh went from sub 40k to 300k during the run of and aftermath of the anime. Though the LN sales have dropped off big time....

The weekly Manga and Light Novel rankings for January 6th - 12th 2014
*1. 77,789 *77,789 Toaru Majutsu no Index: New Testament Vol.9
*2. 33,393 *33,393 Durarara!! Vol.13

The weekly manga and light novels rankings for June 24th - 30th 2013
19, **7,343 *78,768 Durarara!! Vol.12

Maybe the 2nd season can give them a lift in sales again.... Also from what I've been told it's vol 5 onwards where Durarara really goes up a notch.
