Hi guys, I'm new here but I just yesterday finished the series and it's beautiful. I think things are for the better the way the series ended, but my heart is with Haruka. First love is so precious, but, in my humble experience, too often a victim of the passage of time, just like in Kiminozo.

Anyway, I'm not a native speaker, so I apologize if the translation is rough (feel free to correct me), but I did a conversion of kj's post of Hontou no Takaramono into a w/ kanji version for people such as myself whose get headaches looking at straight kana, and then an English translation. Some parts are literal and some are slightly embroidered. That's poetic license. Also, I go heavy on kanji. Use kj's post if necessary. PS: You too can write in Japanese on your American computer if you download the IME from the Microsoft Office website. As a final note, note that the ferrets' names are derived from the Japanese seasons, as is Haruka's herself--her name, Spring Fragrance (depending on the reading), may be a reference to young, "springtime" love.

This tree is their treasure.

Today, once again, she will nap together with her four friends,
Gathered beneath the tree at the peak of the hill.
What’s this? The tree has borne fruit.
Upon the tree one teeny, tiny, solitary fruit has sprung forth.
A new treasure has been borne.

“What a delicious-looking fruit! I’d like to eat it,”
Says Haru the Ferret.

“No way! It was I who found it! I’ll eat it,”
Says Nattsu the Ferret.

“Idiots! If the tree has borne this fruit,

Because there is just one fruit these quarrels have arisen.

At the peak of the hill, only Haru remains.
Before, everyone took soothing naps together.
Now, only Haru remains.

The next day, Haru naps at home.
And the next day. And the next day.
She naps alone.
“I’m lonely. I’m so lonely.
I want to see my friends. I want to see everyone!”

The following day, Haru is once again
Climbing the hill with all the might in her little body.

On the top of the hill is a tree that has become a giant.
It’s massive branches have borne much fruit.
But Haru remains sad.
Even though these are the treasures she pined for,
She no longer wants them.

“I’m so lonely! It’s so miserable to be alone!
I miss my friends! I want to see them again.”

So saying, Haru has found the true treasure.

Thx for the translation. That's awesome. In the anime, tho, the book ends right at the beginning when the ferrett is still climbing the hill. This is certainly a much more explanatory version. Thx for the post, it's put my mind to rest somewhat.

I was extremely frustrated that they basically left out the Hontou no Takaramono. Because - I don't know about you, but for me this book is _the_ key scene of the epilogue. It's setting the tone for forgiveness and the hope of reconciliation. Without it, the ending loses ALOT of impact.

I hope that in the end, there will be an "extended version" of the KimiNozo DVD release. And if not, it's time to make a fan-version including the full game ending.

Haha. If you read my post on the p-emo thread, I actually mentioned that I was troubled that Haruka's book didn't talk about the friendship motif. Looks like I'll be taking it back. The directors obviously forgot that important detail that the gamemakers didn't. Amen, Mentar. If they release a new version, the whole thing should be included in it. IMO this translation dramatically alters the ending. I had always thought that the story at ending of the anime was simply about Haruka's difficulties thru rehab. In fact, I saw an almost bitter Haruka talking about how she made it to the hill alone, that she was strong enough to stand by herself. So that troubled me that it would end on that note.

Hehe. I'll just pretend there's a redux coming soon and the cutting of the book was merely due to run-time restrictions :-)

In both the series and the game Haruka dreams of writing her own picture book. The book isn't real, but one of the games endings includes the entire story from it instead of the short blurb the television series used.

On a side note, I'd hope they did/do make a picture book out of it... It's a lovely story.

If you go to Kiminozo.com and look at their DVDs for sale (some of which have yet to be released), it looks to me that they actually are printing Hontou no Takaramono and Mayauru no Okurimono as omake for the sets. The latter appears to be out already. Takaramono is a sweet story, so it's no surprise they'd publish it as part of their successful franchise, but I'm really curious to see Mayauru, which I guess hasn't been released before. For the curious, it can also be purchased separately at http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...100932-1152201
