What will Shiro do? What will become of humanity? And what about the paradise of animal-girls?!
“Didn’t I tell you? It’s checkmate. You guys…were doomed long ago.”
In the third volume of the bestselling alternate-world fantasy series, it’s a risky showdown against the Werebeasts!
-continue on from vol 6, Sora and his merry friends challenges Old Deus to a game.
-Miko's life was taken as a starting chip.
-roll and move board game where each player is given 10 dices, and whoever gets to the end wins, but certain rules are in effect:
-each die represent 10% of each players material. They can give and take dice from others and their body will age accordingly. If they have zero die, they will "die". (More on that later)
-each space has one rule set by a player beforehand, and they have to complete a task. Task cannot be something that only the rule setter can accomplish.
-if the task cannot be completed, they are stalled for 72 hours. If it is completed, each participant gains a die from the person who set the task.
-each player, except a traitor, lost their memories from game setup to start. (It was later revealed that some members has added rules to the games)
-Everything will be reflected when the game ends.
-at the start Sora groups with Shiro and Steph, while everyone else was on their own. Turns out the board is a life size scale to the world they live in, just not populated by any exceed races.
-without his memories of how the game was formed, sora declares that he will win and not sacrifice anyone.
-the distance makes it really tough on the human trio, as Shiro calculated the distance is simialr to going from west to east coast of USA, but they managed to get a horse carriage and later a motocycle to help. It still took them about 3 weeks from start to near end of volume 7.
-meanwhile on disboard, Fii and Kurami set sail on their ships to challenge Eastern Federation as planned.
-many different things happens in the game for sora group, but they generally encounter little problems besides having to walk or secure food. They managed to delay the other groups with their tasks, but other people moved faster than they did, even being delayed 72 hours each time.
-shiro tied to use the dice to age herself over 18 to seduce Sora, but was interrupted by jibril. Sora gave jirbril his dice to turn underage to get out of the jam. However, later jirbril goes away, saying that she is going to win even if she has to pick the dirtiest methods. Shiro then realizes that Sora forgot to take back those dice he gave away.
-eventually Ino and sora group both landed on a space with a task from Ino, where they had to split something apart. Hoping to use the rule of the game to override the 10 pledges, Ino tried to kill Sora before Sora can complete the task to take all the remaining dice from Ino.
Spoiler for plot twist and more plot twist:
-turns out that Sora saw Ino's bluff, that there is no way the rule of the game can override the 10 pledges. Ino admits defeat, and his remaining three die was given to the group.
-turns out that Ino didn't really die by losing all his dice, as the soul is weightless, it is not taken away when each player loses their dice. Which also explains why they retain their memories when they get younger.
-Ino is sent back to his workplace, but was notified that elven garde has set up a naval blockade, and wanted to challenge the eastern federation to a game.
-Fii and kurami represents the elven garde, and demanded a game where they will take everything from the warbeasts on the continent. Ino knew about the prearrangement, that the elven garde senate was given a false report, and thought that it was part of Sora's plan
-however, the persons to challenge the game is fii and kurami, and they have came up with a way to counter the real game. While fii gave the report to regarding the fake game, Kurami, having sora's memory, knew that sora wanted to challenge old deus, and that most of the able people will be with him when that happens.
-cornered into a playing a losing game, just when Ino was going to admit defeat to their treachery, Plum shows up.
-It was Plum's plan all along as he invited those two from elven garde the first place. Plum was the one who added the rule so that they would not die when they "die" in the old deus game, and he wanted to lose as fast as possible to go into the "soul form", where he can use as much magic as he wants without having to feed.
-plum was able to show that he is more superior with stealthy arts by being able to read fii and kirami's private conversation, and claimed to show them the tricks that the dhampirs have hidden for 6000 years.
-plum offered to help Ino in exchange for 50 warbeast for feeding purpose a month, and fii+kurami's lives. Ino senses that he wanted to break away from having to depend on the sirens, and something more.
-back on old deus game, sora and group was near the end, but reached a space where jirbril was waiting. jirbril challenge sora's group to a "war reenactment" game, with the battle set as the last battle with riku vs artosh in volume 6. Jirbril repesents the frugels, while sora and group are the humans.
-the rules are that they have to invade each others capital, and whoever loses will have to commit suicide (which overrides the old deus board rule, and thus they will really die, not how plum or ino turned out.)
-each side is free to give up, but will be treated as a lost. Jirbril added which ever side wins will get the other sides' dice, and that sora has to tell jirbril how to beat the old deus game.
-confused by jirbril's actions, Sora had no choice by to abide to the scenario presents to him.
-Meanhile, izuna lands on the spaces that says "choose one of the seven souls (players) held by old deus to let go (kill), and teleport to the winning space.

Speaking of the 7th volume. Damn that tri-tri-triple cliffhanger at the end. It looks like a promising arc- if the author can manage to get a resolution on everything without too much asspulls and deus ex machina, of course. That's going to be hard, the level of the bad situation in each place was very high.
I'm not a fan of the shiro x Sora being pushed that actively like with Shiro's plan in the bathroom btw. Although using her brain fully to calculate his sexual preference with all the heroin he's targetting in eroge and the like was lol. Why didn't she notice that before. But heh, she got a huge mental shock here with knowing her adult appearance x).

Do you really think this series needs a separate LN subforum? I love NGNL discussion as much as the next guy, but this thread doesn't exactly get a ton of traffic as it is.
