Well it probably would be close. I mean they'd have to take precautions so it wouldn't be clear that she was a wolf. Since it wouldn't be exactly like modern times. Don't think the church would pat her down to confirm there is nothing unusual.

Of course Amati would have to be informed about who Horo really is since I doubt you can keep that a secret . Which would mean he help them avoid anything that could lead to getting caught by the church.

It also depends on how often Amati deals with the church. Lawrence is a little small-time, and usually on the move, so he's okay. But someone as big as Amati probably deals with more scrutiny. So while she might get away with it for awhile, it wouldn't take long, I think.

But even if Lawrence fails, I don't think Horo would want to settle down, not after being stuck in a village for so long. Well, that and the fact that she (probably ) values Lawrence's company. After all, she's said that not many people stick around when they find out her identity. The difference between the two is that Lawrence likes Horo the Wise Wolf of Yoitsu, and Amati likes Horo the young beautiful traveling nun.

I just can't see Horo settling down with anybody (outside of Yoitsu that is). I CAN see her possibly ditching Lawrence in her current state because of how long he was withholding information he had on Yoitsu. But then what would she do then?

Well sadly she is in a tough spot right now. Right now after reading that letter has to believe Yoitsu is gone. Also Lawrence was withholding information from her and if he fails the situation is complicated. Normally couldn't see her just sitting around with Amati, but where else does she have to go?

If as it seems her home is gone, can't stick with Lawrence, can't really afford to stay in one city for too long for fear of discovery, and can't see her going back to the village we started in, just what does that leave her? Be bad enough to have to deal with the loneliness that we know bothers her so much. Guess she could still make her way up North alone and confirm it for herself or hope to find anybody there.

Really Lawrence just has to pull this off for all of their sakes. Failure really just means a bad situation for the two of them. So let's pull this off, have a talk with Horo, and get back on the road!

Basically, Horo and Lawrence are in a very sticky situation. The only hope he has to resolve the situation is to make sure Amati can't fulfill his contract. Better get to work!

Well, I think we can agree, Horo isn't going anywhere by herself. I mean, traveling alone, now? So it really comes down to Lawrence or Amati. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever get to find out what would happen if Lawrence lost, because he'll probably pull it off in the end. Too bad, I'd really like to see how that works out...

Well of course had to jump onto the latest translations to see what would happen. Looks like Lawrence really will try and turn the disaster that happened last time around in this volume. Before his buying on credit ended up burning him big time. This time he is hoping to turn that around and burn Amati which will make him unable to come up with the funds to buy out Horo's debt.

This handles the problem of making sure Amati falls in if Lawrence can get the pyrite price to drop. Now his big problem will be initiating his plan. Using the guys feelings for Horo certainly was effective in getting the job done. If he's willing to go as far as causing the price to drop, that kind of emotional hit really is the least of his worries.

Even assuming Lawrence can pull this off the guy will still need to talk with Horo to repair the rift that these events have created.

Actually, it's selling on credit, which is a bit different from buying on credit. In this kind of deal, the one conducting the sale (Lawrence in this case) receives payment ahead of time and promises to deliver a product at a later time (kinda like ordering products), so whether or not Lawrence actually possesses 500 silver coins' worth of pyrite at the present moment is insignificant, as long as he is able to produce this amount by the following evening.

I don't get it. 200 in cash + 200 in horses makes 400, not 500.

There is a passage near the end of the section explaining this. Apparently the amount of cash Amati actually possesses is 100 silver coins greater than the amount indicated by Horo's information. Lawrence was told that Amati had 200 in cash, but in fact, he had 300.

I see your point, but in the earlier case the merchant who sold armor to Lawrence didn't have to do anything at all, because the price of battle equipment had already crashed. He simply withheld this information from Lawrence.
