Yup, my vote would be for the Kona-coputaa. Nothing beats a Doraemon reference.

Maybe that sequence was taken years later, when Kona became world-renounced light novelist and eroge writer, and suddenly grew 10cm.

Ok to quote to a poster on 'You Tube', "Lucky Star is love."

I have agree now. I am now finally a 'Lucky Star' junky.

I guess I had to find my way through it. I rewatched episodes 1-4 again and I kind of felt bogged down. But it was still funny to watch. But I can really see how things picked up after episode 5. Now it just flows like, 1-2-3. I wonder if the change in direction made the difference? I could not help laughing at some of the stuff going on. And I love comedies.

I tell you this is the most "moe" looking group of HS kids I've ever seen. There's almost no way anyone could be convinced that they're all in HS. They remind me of a bunch of middle-schoolers in HS. I love how they just keep plugging the hell out of 'Haruhi'. Considering it's the same studio responsible. 'Konata' is crazy as all hell with her odd sense of mixing fantasy with reality. I guess having an "otaku" for a father is the reason why. But she's got her own agenda. Hell, even her cousin 'Yui' is a mess. But you got to love the teacher who can hang out online and keep watch over students not studying. Gotta love that. But all the characters are interesting. But 'Konata' is that very epitome of "geekdome" where only true geeks can react to a statements that only they know. Like a secret language. And she does this like it's normal. And the only people that don't comment on it are 'Tsukasa' and 'Miyuki'.

In many ways some of the elements of this remind me of 'Azumanga Daioh' a bit. The reason I say that was because someone commented on the similarities of 'Konata' and 'Kagami' vs 'Yui' and 'Konata'. In a way that's similar to 'Yukari' and 'Nyamo' vs 'Yomi to 'Tomo'. But it's got the type of laid back humor like 'Strawberry Marshmallow'. Where it's more about the odd situations and how you find humor there. Like the girls there had their own moments, but couple that with 'Mui's insanity anything could happen. 'Lucy Star' has the balance of both. You get what I mean. I guess it really isn't for everyone.

Well, you know this wil be picked up. If 'Haruhi' did so well for it to be picked up then 'Lucky Star' will be not be far behind.

You realize what you just said, don't you? That she's going to be the Salman Rushide of Yuri porn?

That is a truly frightening thought, especially given what it would take to actually accomplish the feat of writing something so revolting that even the ero-goru and lolicon artists curse you in their prayers.

Its an art-style (points to Manabi Straight as another example).
You can see similar types of abstractedness in a lot of American comics.

Though they're drawn "cute", they act like high school students. Kona is the only one that could actually pass for a middle-schooler I suppose but as soon as she opens her mouth, that thought vaporizes (as Kagami frequently says, "What are you, Kona? An old man?")

Ah I just got your point... you caught my typo.. it's world-renowned. Hahaha, that's a good one...

BTW, Mr. Rushdie isn't world-renounced... he's just muslim world-renounced. I would say most of the countries in the world have zero desire to behead him.

Oh and for the discussion on the moe-ness of LS girls... Have you seen a a bunch of real-life Japanese girls? There are not only girls as small as Kona but even cuter. "Nice" girls like Miyuki are plentiful. Every class has a boke like Tsukasa. Tsunderes like Kagami... well, real Tsunderes are hard to find because they tend to fake cuteness/niceness due to societal pressure, but once you get to know them personally, they go Akira-sama on your ass and give you their "true face". Yeah they can all look damn cute while at it. I'd say these four girls are rather typical. Okay except the Kona being a male otaku part. That's pretty darn rare.

I used to know a girl called NyaNya-chan... she's 145cm and the cutest person you'll ever seen. Has this supremely moe NATURAL high pitch voice too... Always simling and acting cute... and she looked that way when she was 17. And 27. Yeah these girls not only exist but they are DAMN POPULAR. Ever big guy I know wanted to date NyaNya-chan. As gaijins, you can only see them on anime. In Japan and other Asian countries, boy they do exist. Fortunately I like tall tsunderes.

QFT. And it's not just Japan; you get these sorts in the Chinese race too, they being cousins of the Japanese race and all. I also knew this girl who fits NyaNya-chan's description in every way, and that was when we were 17 and in the same school. I just recently met her again last year, and she's still the same. At 20 freakin' years old. And it sure doesn't look like she'll change much anytime soon.

Therefore, the gaijins are mistaken when they think of the Japanese as lolipedos; they don't realise that what looks like jailbait to them is the standard in Japan. Of course, Vexx-jiji is one of the obvious exceptions around here, but we all know his tastes mirror a certain oji-san in the Lucky Star cast.

Well, the air pressure from the jet would surely blow their skirt-up everywhere they go... so... not that would be a bad thing or anything...

But as we know from the OP, they all wore Magic Sailor Skirts which will never show their panties no matter how hard they jump, thus I suppose the rocket theory has merit. But hell, Rocket's no fun. It's gotta be a take-coputaa* on her head.

*the little spinning propeller made of bamboo which can be put on children's head to make them fly without somehow breaking their necks. Take=bamboo, coputaa as in Helicopter. It's the flying instrument of choice for Doraemon and the gang when they're exploring alien worlds or the age of dinosaurs. Here's the real deal:

gosh, seeing Doraemon again is making me almost teary... the first manga I collected... the first anime I watched... first anime movie I ever went to... first manga character I learned to draw... sigh...

Foods featured In Lucky Star

Awhile back there was talk about the differences between Western Brand Ramen and traditional Ramen, so I thought I would briefly show the differences with some pictures.

This would be considered Western Brand:

Mr. Noodles Is a common brand of Instant Noodle "Ramen" you can find in Canada.
and comes packaged in either the plastic wrap you see here with a block of dry noodles inside and a small packet of dryed vegetables consisting generally of corn and challotes. There isn't any sort of flavour packet and it mostly consists of empty calories.

These Would Be Considered Traditional Eastern Snacks:

I was at the Doremi Store in the city I lived today and thought I ought to pick up some Ramen and snacks for myself and for this very reason. I took a picture as a sample.

Bottom Left we have of course Honey & Milk flavoured Pocky. Pocky as we know is one of Kagami's favourite snack foods. I'm sure most are aware of what it looks like without me having to open the box, but I will upon request. To the right is just some chewing gum I picked up called Hi Chew! which is basically a grape flavoured piece of gum that is a lot like Taffy. Up top is Nong Shim Korean Kimchi soup. The bottom ones are plain Kimchi, the top ones that are pinkish are shrimp flavoured and the one to the left is Udon Flavour. What you get in those are a block of noodles, a packet of extra vegetables to add to the variety of the ones already in place, and the quality and variety of the vegetables are much greater than the Mr. Noodles brand (if it's a specialized flavour, the normal ones don't have any vegetables outside of the packet if I recall) and the kicker is a flavour packet that adds a delicious (my words) spicy flavour to the soup that you don't get with western brands period. The English and French writing are only on there since it's required by law in Canada to honor the two official languages.

]

Here's the reverse side of the Pockey with the added label that makes it legal to sell in Canada. The back of the Hi Chew! is just a boring inredients list in Japanese.

So hopefully this has given people a bit of a better understanding of two of the major brands of food favoured by Konata and Kagami and why they are different from what we have here. They aren't too hard to find here in Canada, but I don't know about elsewhere. If anyone is interested I suggest trying to find a store that sells Asian foods in your city and you should find these types of food in sold within.

Maybe I'm just not old enough, because that is also true for me, but all I did was cheer really hard when I heard it. I never thought I'd hear Doraemon no Uta ever again.

How many gadgets can I remember...(literal translation from Chinese) the Bamboo Copter, the Everywhere Door, the Everywhere Hoop, the Time Machine inside Nobita's desk, that stilt that looks like a real horse, the Memorization Bread, the Flavor-Sharing Chewing Gum, the Answer Glasses and Answer Pencil, the Expanding and Shrinking Flashlights, Expanding and Shrinking Tunnel, Environment Adaptation Flashlight, the Air Cannon, Air Pistol...

...

*tear*

Just finished watching episode 11 last night. Talk about funny. Of course episode was funny as well. Ah yes that whole thing on "tsundere". Is it really being used properly? Hell it had me thinking. Is 'Kogami' a "tsundere" type? Even 'Konata' was relating her to one. Does that mean most "tsundere" types have to have long hair? I guess if it's short and boyish it doesn't count. As having short hair puts you as close to being "boyish" and hotheaded as it gets. The creators were having fun with this one. According to 'Shiraishi' she's not one by his definition. If she was then I guess she would be close to 'Shana'. But if anything she's closer to 'Yomi' from 'Azumanga Daioh'. Their personalities are similar in the fact that they get easily annoyed when someone agitates them. Not to mention when it's about dieting. But are kind and social practically most of the time. Definitely not like 'Haruhi'. Who's agitated all the time unless something works in her favor. Which is also 'Langley Shouryu Asuka'.

And why do I have this bad feeling that 'Akira' was scratching where the sun don't shine? Talk about "ballbuster". You have to laugh when she starts her rants. She'd make a cool shirt. But if she says that 'Kogami' is "tsundere" does that make 'Akira' a "yandere"? Nah she's just mean no matter how you look at it.

Slight correction: it's Kagami (かがみ) 。。。 not Kogami (こがみ).

Most tsundere's do tend to have long hair though its not automatic. I suppose its in the nature of contrasts that a tsundere is supposed to represent. The debate between a "time linear" tsundere versus a "crunchy outside creamy inside" tsundere will probably be eternal

That wasn't a bad feeling about Akira.... she *was*. She's just insane in a "needs meds" way

A "tsundere" is a girl who is like a creme-filled pastry bun. May be a little burnt or hard on the outside, but has a soft creme-filling. Tsunderes can have very different personalities though...

Edit: Nvm A better answer snuck in before mine.

Hahaha!! That's an interesting contrast "time-linear" vs "crunchy" on the outside and "creamy-filled" on the inside. Well, I guess I have yet to see a short haired one. And again the arguments will be eternal.

Oh I did say, 'Kogami'. At first I did accidently put 'Konata' instead by mistake when I meant to put 'Kogami'. So I went back and fixed it. So no errors on my part. That's why you proof-read. Also easy to mess up when you put those two names together.
