Yes she was the princess. The fact that Adlet didn't know she was the princess when she was talking to him in the prison is the reason she said he was dumb while leaving.

That was also my impression - Adlet realizing the bunny eared lady who had been selected and controlled those swords and called herself the princess and what not was the same as the maid who visited him in the other prison.

Yeah. Adlet noted the maid smelled like apples. It was a nice move on the studio's part to put an apple in his cell.

When I first read the synopsis, I thought the same, but there's no way after this. We saw the crazy light show of him getting the crest.

I'm not so sure. The way he got the crest was right after the weird light from the west and the awakening of the demon god. It was so weird the way the spiral came upon him before the symbol actually appeared. Also, his red hair and eyes are suspicous too. It could be that he's a pawn and doesn't even know it?

I don't know, I haven't read the source material. We'll have to be surprised.

A light novel with a slow pacing adaption.....i wonder how long since I have seen it.
Anyone can guess how many novels they are going to adapt?

Current speculation is 2 volumes based on the pacing and the director's history.

So I guess probably something like this:

Ep 1-5 or 6 = Vol.1
Ep 7-12 = Vol.2

Great first ep! Haven't read the LNs yet, but might start soon after the anime finishes. Let's see where this goes.

Outstanding. How do I love it? Let me count the ways:

1. The Aztec-style backgrounds were great.
2. Good animation. The fighting choreography was enjoyable, and the frames from the protagonists's PoV were thrilling, especially shots from underneath and in motion.
3. Hikasa Youko (Princess Nachetanya's seiyuu) was so fresh and full of energy, giving us a magical princess with a core of steel. It was like hearing Hikasa again for the first time.
4. The OP and ED songs were pretty good, but the Okinawan singer MICHI, making her debut, was fantastic.
5. The story moved well and showed promise. Thought the flow was good and the pacing just about right. The info-dump was not excessive, for me. I'm a slow learner in these things, so it's good to get a head start.
6. The grand but lyrical "big movie" BGM was perfect.

Out of everything, it’s the background music that really sells this series to me. It’s oldscool-fantasy-adventure thing that I often hear from old Spielberg movies or Disney features, it’s almost John Williams-ish.

As for the story so far, well..... nothing special I’m afraid. The overall premise is basic fantasy-RPG stuff which I’m sure there will be some twists along the way. Pretty much standard Final Fantasy stuff. Very good art & animation though.

Still, I applaud the anime-team for going a bit different with the Maya-esque setting. That’s a pretty good way to distinguish itself from other fantasy series. I’m pretty sure this is the first time I see ancient South-American culture featured heavily in anime after the Doraemon movie did it some years ago.

Dont get me wrong. I am just slightly irritated at the MC for his tournament crashing. I will give him a free pass on that for being the protagonist, plot line, and all that . But I wish the author would make him show up at the tournament from the beginning.

As for being confident about being the strongest, he is at least aware of other strong people in the neighbor countries. That gives me hope that he does interact with the outside world and not just a "frog at the bottom of a well" type character.

He wasn't allowed to participate, because his methods of fighting were considered unfair and as cheating, I mean using tricks and gadgets.

It looks like my favourite anime of season. OP is very nice.
