Some people in the party, though, have been very vocal about removing him beforehand in favor of a caretaker PM. Either someone else in the current cabinet or even bringing back Theresa May to hold the fort until October. Problem is: this requires BoJo to acquiesce since he needs to voluntarily stand down. If he doesn't, then it probably means that the Conservative Party backbenchers will still need to find a way to change their internal rules to bright forth a vote of no confidence. This is because, as per the current rules of the Party, the PM is immune from a no confidence vote for the year following the previous one. And BoJo just barely survived one of those just recently. This is all absolute madness. Over 50 resignations in government over 24 hours? Insanity!
