Made in Abyss [Manga]
Synopsis: Riko, an orphan girl, who lives in the town of Orth on an island in the sea of Beoluska dreams of going deep into hole that sinks into the earth, commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbors artifacts and remnants of a civilization long gone, and is therefore the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descents into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find. Returning from the Abyss, however, can be dangerous, as "the Curse of the Abyss," a mysterious and potentially fatal malady, manifests upon ascension. The deeper one goes, the more acute the effects of the curse; few who have descended into the lower regions have returned to tell of their experiences. Some legendary Cave Raiders earn the title of White Whistle, one of them being Riko's mother Lyza. Riko's goal is to follow in her mother's footsteps and solve the mysteries of the Abyss. One day she explores the caves and discovers a robot named Reg who resembles a human boy whom she and her friends befriend. Some time later, Riko is informed that some items sent by Lyza were recovered, including a message to her, telling her to meet in the bottom of the Abyss. Riko then bids farewell to her friends and departs to the Abyss with Reg in search for her mother, despite knowing of the risks and the fact that due to the Curse of the Abyss, she will never be able to return. I figured since we didn't have a manga thread and the manga updated, I'd add one so we can talk about the latest chapters without ruining it for Anime-Onlys. Spoiler:

We are certainly in one of the longest if not the longest arc, while being presented with the full historical tour of the capital of the unreturned. One downside is that the chapter release rate is slow enough that I have to keep going back a few chapters to remind myself what happened, but the series is well worth it.
Now on to the story... it is really depressing as usual. Then again being able to touch your base feelings is what this series is about.

Holy fuck it only took 9 months for chapter 64; Tsukushi is giving GRRM a run for his money. Nevertheless a Bondrewd cameo is always nice, and bathtime is apparently more important than Reg and Nishagora's duel which seems to end in a draw. In fairness, Reg must stink pretty bad, and its a pretty epic battle regardless.
I heard it kinda sucks but I'm really tempted to get Binary Star while its 50% off on Steam. I'll see I suppose. |
