Portait CD discussion / lyrics request etc.
Finally,
Ayu's Portrait CD is OUT!! Now we can hear Ayu telling all of us to step on cat S*** now... (or did she take that out in the song?) N E WayZ... Someone tell me that I'm not the only one that's interested in the portrait CD's? While I'm here... Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics for the songs in portrait CD's? I'm specifically interested in the translation for Nemuri Hime (Sleeping Princess?), which is the 'other song' in Haruka's portrait CD. Thanks ^_^ |

I especially like Haruka's portrait CD, both for Hoshizora no Waltz (Starry sky Waltz) and Nemuri Hime, which grew on me quickly - so much so in fact, that I attempted transliteration by ear some time ago (a foolish escapade indeed). Of course, I noticed it was done far more reliably just recently... but hey, it was fun to count the mistakes ) I could make a decent attempt with the original Kanji when the CD arrives shortly but....
No translation AFAIK yet, only romaji lyrics (www.animelyrics.com) but that's the way it's best kept, right? The other topic is here, just in case you haven't found it yet : http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=241 I'm not so fond of Ayu's portrait CD, but I did find the first "PANIC!" to be quite amusing - as you might expect I suppose, particularly at the end (but no "Step in Cat S**t I'm afraid ) |

Look again ^^ - the forums have conspired against you!
Yes, nemuri hime does indeed have romaji lyrics, I suspect they were only put up recently though. No translation yet but.... if someone really is bored, they could always translate the kanji (painstakingly reproduced and double checked from the CD insert) . Each line is a whole stanza, to try and make this post a little less 'vertical'. こんなそばに いるのに * REPEAT Last edited by EtherNEZ; 2004-02-10 at 17:34. You are quite correct! They are indeed cut off.
I suspect the last line reads rather oddly as the first half is the kanji from the second to last line while the remainder is from the last part of the last line.... - and I was foolish enough to insist that I'd 'meticulously' reproduced it.. Anyway, corrected. |

(My favourite was Haruka's, followed by Akane's... I still haven't gotten Nemuri Hime out of my head) oh... I suppose I misheard it then. I think she made some reference to 'neko' in PANIC... but I couldn't make out what she said..... (Ayu has some dialogue starting around 2:40... and at 2:55 - 3:00, she saids something about neko... can someone tell me what's it about?) Thx |

Can someone revise my translation of Nemuri Hime PLZ? THX!!
Since I couldn't find a translation of Nemuri Hime, I decided to give it a futile attempt...
Despite the fact that I am EXTREMELY limited in terms of japanese vocab... and also by the fact that I'm bad with languages in general... Nonetheless, the desire to know what the song's about has overcome my rational... and thus my obsession... N E WayZ... back on topic... After translating phrase by phrase using bablefish, and blowing my mind trying to figure out the sentence structure... I came up with: "Nemuri Hime Always recurring in my dreams. The Distant memories. Wrapped in light. Time, it has stopped Your voice is here. Always inside (me). Kindly it echoes. Calling my name * Isn’t it sad? Isn’t it sad? Everyday you come to meet me But no matter what you say, I cannot answer >> Instrumental << Dim is the light, showing the road ahead. Certainly at the far end. I can meet with you Sadness, it trembles, the wound I have within me. I want to see with my own eyes, that you’re holding me close It keeps passing calmly. The time for us it continues to flow I want to convey love my to you. The morning that I will one day wake up >> Instrumental << Don’t go. Don’t go I’m being led into the lonely night. You see? I would like to hold your fingers, and be by your side * Repeat" Now, if some kind soul could tell me if I'm correct, I'd greatly appreciate it ^_^ P.S. I really had trouble with the main verse... so i also have a version 2: * Don't cry, don't cry I get to see you everyday Though no matter what you say, I cannot answer ^_^ Thanks for those who will help me check if the translation is at least semi-coherent ^_^ |

Redid the translation for increased accuracy...unfortunately, I looked at the kanji, and hitomi does mean pupil in this case. How does one embrace a pupil? Is that like drowning in someone's eyes?
Dear eMpTy, I like your translation. It has some holes in its sentence structure, though. The hardest thing about the language is to figure out what clause is modifying what, and where all the verbs are pointing. I used your text as a template and considered it a worthwhile challenge to improve upon it grammatically, if not stylistically. A few notes: because of English sentence structure, I rearranged many of the lines within each stanza. Also, naku [to cry] --> nakanaide, and hitomi (this stumped me for a while) is actually hito + mi = person's body, instead of pupil [of an eye]. You're better than you think you are, but if you study the clausal structure, you will surely improve! Ganbatte! I think the context of the song (a girl remembering how she slept next to a guy but couldn't express her love) (at least that's how I read it) is quite touching. But I'm a sap. Tell me what you think! --loki9x Sleeping Princess Recurring in my dreams, The distant memories Are wrapped in light, And time stands still. The kind words Brought forth by your voice Always echo beside me, Calling my name. * Don't cry. Don't cry. Every day you come to meet me, But no matter how many times you start to speak to me, I cannot answer. I can see the road, Faintly glimmering. On the other side, I'll surely be able to greet you. Trembling with sadness, Wanting to drown In your eyes, That I alone know, The morning when I will one day awake, Wanting to declare my love to you, I will preserve our time together That calmly passes us by. Don’t go. Don’t go. I'll be led out into the solitary night. I'm lonely. I'd like to touch your fingertips, Even though you're right beside me. * Repeat Last edited by loki9x; 2004-03-06 at 21:39. |

Nice work, both eMpTy amd loki9x. The lyrics flow quite well - though the real challenge would be to try and adjust the English lyrics to fit the Japanese melody!
Beware the pitfalls of BabelFish! - then again, having a fish attached to your ear is bound to cause linguistic problems! eMpTy -> I feel I owe you a sincere apology concerning Ayu's track 'PANIC!'. Though it is risky business trying to pick up words in the lyrics by ear alone, I was obviously not paying attention properly because after listening again I hear quite distinctly (though vocalised in a stunted fashion) @2:56 - 2:58 猫のうんこ (Neko no unko) : which is... wait for it -> Spoiler:
So you can revel in the fact that Ayu is indeed making the most out of the situation at our expense! ^^ |

Definately my favourite few seconds of the Ayu Portrait CD. hmm... did she say something along the lines of "you understand? Go step on cat S***!" ? it's also neat how she does an 'intro' to her song... and then does all the 'thank you' stuff. =D Quote:
I was trying to figure out what the lyrics means with the 'pupil' issue... Yeah... and sitting on the TTC and listening to Nemuri Hime, I realized that I made several mistakes in interpretting the bablefish translations. =D heh... I'm severely addicted to the song... Somehow when I first heard the song I was hooked by the way Minami sung the song... but after finding out the meaning of the title, I was completely addicted to the song. Even now, I'm listening to the song as I type... (I probably should make Nemuri Hime the only song on my winamp list... since I keep replaying it anyways.) ^_^ Yay.... at least my attempt wasn't as futile as i thought it was. (at least these attempts yield a greater return than my investiment in school... =P) I'm still trying to figure out how to make the lyrics as flowing as possible, without actually arranging any of the phrases... (Hence the lack of flow in my lyrics. =D) (Hopefully I'll be able to somehow make sense of it... now I read it (my lyrics), it's almost as if Yoda was the person singing it... everything's in the wrong order.) ^_^ OK... I'll try to revise it tomorrow ^_^ Thanks for your help ^_^ Nemuri hime all the way ^_^ |

I was listening to a sweet little song called "Issho ni itai ne" (I want to be with you) by Kuribayashi-san, and since it's fairly slow had the urge to try to transcribe it. I believe that the result was mixed. I'm not sure what album it is from; perhaps from a "drama theater" disk--I don't know if that's the same as a portrait. I would appreciate any further information about this song and the distinctions between what the various types of records are (eg, is a portrait CD just an album sung by the seiyuu?). Also, if anyone else has a copy of this music, please try to review and suggest corrections both to the transcription and translation. As you can see by the *** [holes], the middle was particularly troublesome. Jaa~ ne~

I'll have to check this out as well. Especially if it's anything like the portrait ones.
loki9x I was going to say it's quite a long song lyrics wise, until I actually noticed that you've put a translation under each line One of the biggest problems I think you find in attempting to intepret these lyrics from the song is the vocalisation of consonants (s -> z, t -> d, k -> g). Of course, if you know what you're doing you can work out what's wrong afterwards - probably. eMpTy265 : Wakata ga ....[something]...... neko no...... u**o ..... umeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! That's what I get. I can't make out the [something] at the moment, it's too fast. I'm not sure about the last part either, ume is 'Plum' apparently although one of dictionary entries appears to be 'lowest' (which would be more in fitting here). Alternatively I could be completely up the creak and misinterpreting what I'm hearing However, I suspect she's saying exactly what you think she is! We just need the lyrics to be sure.... PS. I thought I'd star out u**o seen as we did the same for the English |
