It's been a long time since I posted in this thread. Anyway, life has been crazy for the past few months due to my thesis, though I have found time again in recent weeks.
This is my 6th attempt at making karipap, and I am proud to say that this latest attempt is by far the most successful. One key factor that I could never get right in the previous attempts is the crispiness. I think the next time I make it, I will substitute potato filling with fish. |

It's spring now, but the weather is still a bit chilly, so I cooked something spicy that would keep me warm inside. I have always loved the combination of hot and sour flavour;it makes one's eating experience so much more enjoyable. I usually opt for the vegetarian version since seafood is quite costly, but today I decided to spend some extra cash as a treat to myself. I normally eat tom yum just as it is without noodles, but I was extra hungry today, so I ate the tom yum with bihun. Bihun is the best type of noodle for tom yum, because it absorbs the soup, so that when you eat the bihun, the flavour of the tom yum is inside the bihun.

Phew, ever since I handed in my thesis, I have been on a roll, baking and cooking non-stop. I had been stuffing myself with simple dishes such as fried rice in order to save time, but no longer! Today's menu is nasi kerabu. Erm, there is no direct translation for it (technically, there is but it sounds weird). I panicked for a while when I couldn't find butterfly pea flowers that I thought I had. Luckily my housemate had some left. Nasi kerabu is tasty, but it takes quite some time to make it because there are so any components, ranging from the rice itself, the fish (this part always takes a loooooooooooooong time), the grated coconut, etc,etc..but it's definitely worth it. If my memory serves me right, I think this is my second time posting about nasi kerabu in this thread. |

I am concerned about the ingredients though. Could you find blue pea flower in the US? Edit: It's okay, you can just use colouring. Last edited by MUAHAHAHAHAHA; 2013-05-07 at 13:57. |

Made this dish for yesterday's dinner. The funny thing is the dish is called "Devil's Curry", and I ate this while watching Hataraku. Very fitting, haha. Anyway, this is one of my favourite curry dishes due to the number of spices that I used; galangal, mustard seed, lemongrass, tamarind juice, etc, etc. The curry has a very rich flavour, but it takes quite some time to cook it. I had to fry the spice paste for about 15 minutes, then left it alone for another 10 minutes after adding the eggplant, then later when I had poured the water into the paste, the curry was left for another 30 minutes.I usually eat this for 2 days. Not worth all that trouble for just a single meal. Normally, one uses potatoes for curry, but I am cutting down on carbs, so I used eggplant instead.

Here's a tip to make the rice tasty. After you wash the rice and add it into the rice cooker bowl along with 2-3 cups of water depending on how many cups of rice you added, add a spoon of butter or margarine in the bowl. Then start the rice cooker. The butter/margarine flavor rice will taste good.
