I could see Nagi as the 'defeat them from within' type, letting himself be sent to Cosmo Entelecheia in order to destroy it from the inside.

Maybe it was Heroic resolve allowing him to break free for a brief time. Much like Rakan could briefly negate his own 'death' enough to help Negi with a short motivational speech.

I mean, pretty much all alternatives boil down to Nagi either being a neglectful dick or him being kept by something or someone we haven't been given any clues about.

I think you are a little mistaken about the various Fate's

The Earth Fate is dealing with the Lightning Fate, and the Fire Fate is actually being taken by Negi himself, in his lightning form, although I don't think that both the Fire and Lightning Fate are going to last for a long time, and in my opinion are probably going to be defeated in the next chapter...

Nah, a spoiler "accidentally" leaked during a video interview with Akamatsu suggests the focus will be off of Negi for at least part of the next chapter. Considering the subject of that spoiler, it's likely that "part" will be most, if not all of next chapter (and maybe the subsequent chapter or two as well).

That's not to say the fights won't be short, of course.

Anyway, it doesn't seem like Tertium is in the best condition. I mean, he only threw a rock, rather than a cascade of spikes as usual. He's still a bit crispy, too. Either he was just stylishly getting Quint's attention, or he's really just too banged up to throw anything damaging his way. By the way, I'd love to see how awkward the conversation would be if Tert wins.

He'll be fine; his health is a bit low, but Ground-types are immune to electric-type attacks, and his own attacks will be super-effective.

You're pretty much jumping the gun here, DKN117. We can't tell for sure that they're dead and as you say, we can't also confirm that they're alive. But there has been no recorded death so far in this series (present time), so most of us assume that they're still alive.

And since Yuna and Beatrix were stored in Kaede's cloak and she's been killed, they were likely killed with her.
