Tip of the Day:

Open up the player with random anime in it.
Pause.
Open another instance of the player.
Press 'PrintScreen.'

There, the first player instance will be blank, but the second one will display normally (although I have noticed that the colours won't be the same).

Question Screen Caps

I was trying to make a screencap of this scene in one of my video files. But it come out messed up. Like you only see part of the screen, or too much black space and when I closed the video file, the entire image went away. I tried capping it with Print Screen and with the screen cap option in Paint Shop Pro. Maybe it's a video file and thats why. but does anyone know what I should do?

The problem is that the image is on the overlay. When video acceleration is used the image is sent directly to the video card with only a section of the screen (marked by the color of your media player's blank screen) that shows what is on the overlay. This means that you can't use Print Screen to take a picture of the video. To deal with this problem either turn off video acceleration or else use BS Player's screen capture function. I don't watch anime with BS Player, but I do use it for screeshots.

...Or start one random movie, pause it, start another player, and take the screenshot. The colours will become slightly twisted though.

I use BS player for screen grabs, too, or VirtualDub since that allows you to advance one frame at a time.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew any good programs for screen capturing AVI files etc etc? At a good quality.

Thanks in advance.

What do you need to do this for? The eventual intent of your project would help us to better point you to the right programs.

Use virtual dub it has an option to save as images. just select a small part of the movie and have it save as images.

There doesn't seem to be any support for it on the win32 version, from what I've been able to find.

Windows Media player ----> View -----> Enhancements ------> Play speed settings

Now youll get a new bar just above your movie slider thingy.

Using the < > arrows on your new bar, youl be able to move 1 frame at a time through your movie.

virtualdub -> file -> open
then find the frame you want and press "print screen",
open paint and paste, save as whatever you want ^_^

or

select a sequence of video with the start and end tab things, then go to file -> save image sequence to get each frame of that part of the movie all saved in a folder of your choice as either bmp or tga.

ffdshow
Though to use it, ffdshow must be able to decode the video.
