I didn't expect the changes to be this significant. It's almost like they're intending to change the general flow of R2, yet still striving for the same outcome.
Idk how I feel about this since on one hand, change is kinda good since some won't want a complete rehashing of the original series, but on the other hand, some may be peeved that they even try to change anything at all. It's one thing to add additional content, it's another to alter existing material which in turn makes the original story at least partially non-canon given just how significant some of these changes are. That said, personally I'm not mad tbh. I kinda welcome it. See, as someone who has watched the original series about 4-5 times by this point, I wouldn't have given these compilations a chance if they were just a rehashing. And if I'm being completely honest here, there are a few changes mentioned here that I actually like since I thought the events/scenes that they changed were lacking/weak in the original series. Ofc where there are pros, there are also cons and some changes do bother me like the absence of Mao for one and I'll "refrain" from mentioning any other since I don't want to spoil anyone.

As someone whos also watched code geass like 4-5 times (god, I love this show too much lol), I like the changes as well. It seems likely they improve the story, events make a bit more sense by removing side stories/plots that were frankly sub-par. Sometimes recons are a good thing.

Shirley being alive is sort of a big change. They do have chance to kill her off in the FLEJIA bombing , but I doubt they'll do that. I am curious to see her reaction to Lelouch becoming emperor of Britanna and his later death.

It wasn't actually. It was needless drama and additional motivation to deal with the order, nothing more.
As for her "comeback" being or being not necessary - she will clearly be a part of whatever they are prepairing for Lelouche's ressurection. So obviously she is necessary from their point of view.

Her death was without a doubt something important for Lelouch as a character, it was something that showed him the impact of his actions and that he wasn't untouchable despite his own power and intellect. Saying Shirley's death was pointless is wrong on so many levels. Her comeback was necessary for the director because in his own words this is placed on an alternative timeline but at the same time the reaction of the fans in japan and the west wasn't the best because of that. Basically they're telling us that we need to ignore some elements from the old series because they're going to change a lot of them. |
