And American Katherine Reutter makes it into the Women's Short Track 1000m Final. Probably going to be an Asian sweep, with two Chinese and a Korean in the race, but just making it there is awesome for her. She's pretty darn cute, too.

Apparently the Austrlian speedskating referee who made the disqualification yesterday isn't officiating the current speedskating rounds because of security concerns (apparently he has received death threats).
Losing to Slovakia would be better than losing to the U.S. twice. I think that kind of finale to the games would be absolutely unbearable to most Canadians.

Ohno getting DQ-ed makes me FURIOUS.
Hamelin did the SAME THING to Ohno in the 1000m and he wasn't DQ-ed. Who knows if Ohno would've won Gold, or still only had Bronze (or move to Silver), but if Ohno gets DQ-ed, Hamelin should've (even if he didn't medal ultimately). Absolutely disgusting. And Canada ties for the lead in Gold, passing the US.

I thought they were reviewing the contact Hamelin made on the Korean there (which is a very hard call to make), but apprently it was the push by Ohno on Tremblay |

He put his hand on the guy's hip and the guy fell. It was pretty upsetting (because he was in silver medal position) but that is the nature of the sport, it's very volatile.

That being said, the Canadian that fell appeared to fall due to his own bad turning (the angle on the Canadian's turn was really wonky), not specifically Ohno's fault. |

There will be no miracle

Ohno's contact on Tremblay looked about the same as Hamelin's contact on Ohno in the 1000m, except that Ohno managed to hold on. Tremblay's fall probably sealed the deal on Ohno's DQ, which is rather unfortunate. Oh well, thems the breaks in short track.
Edit: Heh, 2 other people said the same thing while I was writing this post.

Apparently the consistency is based on whether the person you make contact with falls.
So people who say Apolo only wins by luck, well in short track luck is a factor but the volatile nature (and also the judge's calls) of this sport can also play against you as well and it did in this case.

Well, let's see here... Canada has 9 Golds now. I expect them to get Men's Hockey and Men's Curling yet. That's 11. I expect them to be the heavy favorites in the Long Track Men's Team Pursuit, so make that 12. Then there are a couple other events where the Canadians should have a Gold contender.
Extremely good chance to break the single-games Gold count record.
